New revell F/A-18E!!!

Hello Folks,

Today my local hobby shop placed the new Revell super bug on the shelf. This may have been a stocking error since the clerk told me that she believed it wasn’t supposed to hit the shelves until later this month. None the less i greedily scooped up the last remaining box and bolted for the cashier. This is not intended to gloat but rather to inform others that it appears to meet if not surpass the detail and quality of Revell’s excellent 1/48 F-15E in every way!! The GBU-31 x 2 w/penetrater configuration put this kit on the must have list. The cockpit and seat look comparable to some aftermarket products. The cost was around $18… I can’t wait to see what true Hornet experts have to say, but for me this is a strong contender for my “kit of the year.” Now I WANT TO SEE REVELL PROVIDE THE SAME TREATMENT AND give a much needed facelift to REVELL’s 1/48 scale A-10!!![:p]

Cheers,
BWOG

I’m more of a USAF guy myself, so a well kitted A-10 would be awesome!

Good news on the SuperHornet.

I’m sure as soon as I finish my existing Revel old tool A-10, someone will come out with a new state-of-the-art kit!

Wonder if Revell will improve their Tomcat?

I am still waiting on the F model Super Bug. Bwog, do any of the parts in the E model indicate they might be planning a two seater?

Yardbird,
reference F varient; yes, the “nose” slides into the “neck” of the aircraft. so yes i’d say Revell has designed considerations for a two-seat version.

Also Albert i’d like to see Revell release more modern aircraft at this level of quality…the detail equals hasagawa or tamyia and the price is nearly 1/2.

Revell’s coment and feedback 1-800 number is 1-800-833-3570.

Happy modeling

SAAWWEEEEEEETTTTT!!![party][yeah] I guess I’m heading over to my LHS to see who may have something on the shelf. Now the the “Echo” Bug is out, I can’t wait for the “Foxtrot”!!! Definitely puts the Italeri kit to shame…

Hey BWOG, what was on the decal sheet as far as squadrons? [?] I like to do 1/72 for most of my jets & bigger stuff ( I live in the barracks!) but would most definately get one for that price.[:p] Be great if it had some CVW-5 markings![:D]

Iodni_k: I see at least VFA-14 from CAG-11… Isn’t VFA-27, Royal Maces, the first F/A-18E SQDN from CAG-5?

Bwog,

Any chance of posting some pics of the box and the sprues? I have been waiting for this kit with great anticipation!! While the Hase kit is good, I pine for something a little larger that I can redeem my crappy build with. Thanks.

Nice find on the Super Bug; Ever since the new RM F-15E and Rafale, I’ve been looking forward to this kit. Not my favorite plane, but it’s still nice to have a good kit of a relevant machine.

Now if they’ll just do an F/A-22A…

All,

VFA-102 was the first CAG-5 squadron to fly F-18F Super Hornets. The Diamondbacks new Super Hornets repleced the older TF-30 engined F-14As of VF-154. VF-154 Tomcats came through here at Oceana to be “de-commissioned” not to long ago. They all still had their Operation Iraqi Freedom mission markings on them as they came through.

But do Royal Maces use the F/A-18E?

Put me on the wish list of a new A-10.

Tortorelli

VFA-27 “Royal Maces” do indeed fly the F/A-18E. They recently converted from the -18C. They are now assigned to carrier air wing 5 along with VFA-102 (in the -18F). Frank

Frank,

Thanks! That’s what I thought. So the all Hornet deck (for strike and fighter aircraft) rounds out with the following:

VFA-102: F/A-18F
VFA-27: F/A-18E
VFA-192: F/A-18C
VFA-195: F/A-18C

Enjoy them, Deino

Hey I’m impressed, I’d betted that the kit would be a reboxed Italeri kit, and I admit I am corrected that my opinion was wrong, now only if Revellogram would UPDATE all of their molds to surpass this kit, and re-start giving Hasegawa & Tamiya a great run for their money like it was back in the 80’s & 90’s

umiami91, Deino’s web page has much better pics than i could manage. Thanks Deino

Loadni_k, Dragonfire’s correct the decals are for VFA-14, USS Nimitz, Aug 2002.

Trigger74, F-18E isn’t my favorite either but i really respect a company that can produce this quality at this price.

Did -154 decom?? I was under the impression that they were transitioning to the Super. So the Revell kit has markings only for VFA-14 but no others? Well, that wouldn’t be too big of a problem but I haven’t seen any AM decals for the Royal Maces -F yet.[:(] I was a little suprised that they “carried over” their old scheme, anyway. I was thinking they were going to finally get something original, rather than a variation of the old -A model Golden Dragons markings. - Calvin
