New Project

Hey guys, Fall Break’s almost over an I’m taking some stuff back so I can model when I get bored. I drove to the LHS and discovered a “For Rent” sign and an empty room behind glass…I was pretty sad. Granted it wasn’t that good of a LHS, but it’s better than nothing. So I went to this military surplus store that I knew had a couple of Tamiya kits and got Tamiya’s 1/35 T-62A.

I’m not going to start working on it til I get back to college and I’ve made a promise that it’s going to be the only project on the desk there…(I’ll be taking bets to see how long it takes to break that [:P])

Just wanted to ask if there are any major problems or major inaccuracies that can be fixed easily. I’m not talking about cutting the whole thing apart and buying a bunch of AM stuff, this is going to be an OOB with some simple scratchbuilt improvements. Any help or advice would be appreciated, thanks!

I think there are some turret shape and small fittings issues that are the main accuracy points on that kit. Also detail/reference was not easily available when it was first molded (during the height of the Cold War), so that shows in some of the smaller details, or lack of them. There are several AM sets out there to clean up the details, the turret, or both. Straight OOB it looks good, but can be a real show stopper with some extra effort.
