New member looking to improve skills

Hello everyone. I’m a new member looking forward to building more plastic and less balsa models. But I need serious help on my skills. If it has wings I’m in love. In fact I just bought a full scale Kitfox mod. IV. And I have so many RC models I have to spread them out so my wife can’t see them all at once.

Over the years I’ve been buying WWII US carrier aircraft in 1/48th scale and I’m looking forward to start building up those skills. Where do I go from here?

Jay

welcome to the forum. Go straight to the Aircraft forum, and you will find 1/48th is one of the most popular.

Welcome Jay. 1/48 aircraft is a big genre and you will not have any trouble finding help here. Lots of great folks ready and willing to help with tricks and tips. Welcome aboard!

Yes, 1/48th is very popular. But we are currently working on correcting that error [;)]

There is currently a US carrier aviation GB

You may find that very useful.

Welcome to endless wonder and friendly arguments without end. Model builders have powerful imaginations, which are essential and dangerous. Models are petrified imagination. Post lots and lots of pictures.

Welcome to the Forum!

Welcome BB,

You are in good company, I know there are more than a couple balsa dust junkies in here too. As to how to get started? Pick yourself up something that isn’t too expensive, not too detailed, and just jump in . Nothing improves your skill set like practice.

Since the rc birds aren’t cheap, not to mention homebuilts, I’ll point you at Tamiya or Hasegawa as good kits with reasonable detail and well engineered fits. If you can find a Tamiya 1/48 Corsair, that might be just the right kit to cut your teeth on.

Many of your tools will be useful, but you’ll probably want some more as the sickness…er hobby grabs hold.

Best, Marty

Welcome to the Forums Jay! Glad to have you aboard!
