New Here From New Jersey

Hello all … new here and really new to model cars … I have done a few when I was a child but never really put much effort into making them look real. Anyway, my oldest son (19 ) started to build a few and I thought that was cool. So here I am on youtube etc … looking at how to build build models and make them look real …

Here is my very first attempt …

Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you with us.

Your pics did not make it. You have to use a hosting site to save your pics and then transfer the ones you want to the Forums. Check the “Forum Technical Assistance” section for help in figuring out how to set it up. It’s easy. I’m 80, and if I can do it, anyone can. I host my pics on Google and it’s real easy to transfer them. And, it’s FREE.

Wow I did not hear any kind of Jersey accent in your message at all (just kidding). Welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy your stay.

Ben

I don’t think it has enough dents [;)]

Excelent job. I think it looks pretty real to me.

Nicely done aging. Welcome to the Forums.

Now I see them. Looks like you do a pretty good job to me.

Nice rust work, really like the color difference on the door and hood, showing that the owner is starting restoration.

Welcome to the forum, MT!

Where in Jersey are you? Have you ever visited any of the clubs, like NJIPMS (they stage MosquitoCon), the Central Jersey club, or the DelVal scale modelers?

I look forward to seeing more of your builds!

Best regards,

Brad

Thanks Baron, I have not visited any … nor did I know there was any LOL just shows how new I am

Well, depending on where you’re located, there are a several and you could probably visit more than one occasionally.

The New Jersey IPMS club stages the MosquitoCon Show in Wayne every spring, under normal circumstances. They meet in Garwood, and their website is http://njipms.org/

The Central New Jersey IPMS club is based in Point Pleasant. Their website is http://www.cnjc-ipms.org/. Some of their members attend the Delaware Valley Scale Modeler meetings, too.

And there is a club I’d never heard of, based in Delran, the Plan 9 Modelers of South Jersey. I don’t know if they have a website, but here is their page at IPMS/USA’s website, in the chapter index: https://calendar.ipmsusa3.org/chapter/plan-9-modelers-south-jersey

Over here in PA, we have the Delaware Valley Scale Modelers, based in Philly. Our website is here: https://www.dvsm.org/index.html but we also use a Facebook group as a forum. With the COVID lockdowns, we have been meeting virtually since March. I suspect that the other clubs have been doing the same. They may also have Facebook groups, so if you happen to be on FB, you might want to look for them.

Also, if you’re in “southern” northern Jersey, around Phillipsburg or out along the I-78 corridor, you’re within range of our club here in the Lehigh Valley, too, the Lehigh Valley Scale Modelers. We formed 6 years ago, and got an IPMS charter 4 years ago. We do not have a website; we use a Facebook group as our forum. There are a couple of guys who live out near Clinton Station or thereabouts, who participate in our club. We have also been meeting virtually since March.

I’m in Bethlehem, and I belong to both the DVSM and the LVSM. I was a member first at DelVal, because there were no other clubs around. Eventually, some of us here in the Lehigh Valley found each other, through FineScale, of all things.

There are a couple of informal groups that meet, too. I know of some guys down in Bucks County, who used to meet at Herb’s Hobbies in Doylestown, till he closed up shop. They still get together for meetups. There’s a similar group over in Jersey, centered on Cherry Hill and Berlin, I think. People in the various IPMS clubs will know more about such informal groups.

So, you can see, there is a lot going on, just out of sight. “You’ve taken your first steps into a larger world”

Best regards,

Brad
