New guy from Washington

Not really that new as I’m halfway into my 6th decade but new to the forum.
I probably built my first model in the late 60’s, I’ve always been partial to cars and trucks. My last fully built model was probably in '77 or so. Got my drivers license and you know how that goes.
I made an attempt to restart in '98 but put everything away when I moved house and just never got back to it. For the last few years, I’ve been into RC buggies and crawlers, starting with a fully 3D printed Land Rover then a printed Beetle, both from 3Dsets. After that, I found Tamiya buggies and built 3 of them. At 14 cars total, I’m now out of storage space for 1/10 cars, so what’s next? I went rooting around in the attic and found the unfinished kits from '98 so now I have a backlog to deal with.
I’ve got 4 cars to finish, a RG Gundam to add to the pile and an eye on a Millennium Falcon kit.
I probably won’t post much but if I see something that I have actual real world experience in, I do like to add my two cents.

Nice to have more car builders, there is also a small RC thread as well to see some of our crawlers and add to that conversation if you’d like.

I just dug through the Fairlane’s box and found decals for 9 other kits, two of which are military looking. I don’t remember any of them other than the Mac Bulldog truck and some appear to be dated '75. The Fairlane looks like it’s from '93. I’ll post some as found and finished at some point.

I did drop a pic of my Landy in the crawler thread if you want to see it. I spent a couple of months building it and am annoyingly proud of it.

Welcome lasermike! I’ve only been on the forum a couple weeks myself and everyone has been very welcoming and helpful. I’m sure you’ll enjoy being part of the group! - Troy

Welcome, what part of Washington are you from? I live in Olympia.

You have a very diverse set of interests, I’m sure you will bring a ton of good experience to this forum.

A bit north of you in Des Moines.

I do tend to flit from hobby to hobby. I am circling back to model building after a long time. I’m currently finishing a '57 Fairlane 500 I started in '93. In between there’s been a lot of woodworking, I got my amateur radio extra license which I do nothing with and then there’s the 10 years of building sets for a local children’s theater that I’ve recently retired from as I my kid has moved on.

These are three IPMS groups in the area, one in Tacoma that I don’t know much about but I’m hoping to check them out soon, one at the museum of flight (that almost exclusively focuses on 1:72 scale aircraft) one in Bellevue that covers all subjects if you ever want to meet other modelers in the area.

I’ve done a fair bit of woodworking in my day as well, it’s fun to take raw materials and create something from them, though as much putty I’ve had to usr on my last couple of kits felt similar.
