New FA18C

Who went out and ordered the new FA18C in 1/32 scale after reading the review (advertisement) in FSM?
I can’t believe the SRP was listed as $150, let alone the price for $99 from mail order. . .yes I ordered one.
I got my review from my nephew, a plane captain in squadron VFA 131, he says Hasegawa got it right(mostly), and the supplied weapons allow for any configuration flown.

First, she’s Academy, not Hasegawa

I wish I could swing the money for that kit, I was looking at it on a hobby shop shelf today, at $200.00 Canadian, its way over my budget for plastic fun :frowning:

Perhaps if they come out with other variants, say older A and B variants with Canadian and Australian decal options I might loosen up my wallet just a slight bit.

What I really would like to have seen was some international markings on the decal sheet of this kit, according to the review, the kit included the spotlight for night intercepts present on Fin, Swiss and Canadian machines. The Fins and the Swiss are C model users so why not include them. The Kuwaitis are also C models users and I’d say have the most attractive standard paint scheme of any Hornets I’ve seen.

Yeah, I know someone’s saying “Wait for the aftermarket stuff, it’ll be there.” Let me remind you this is $200.00 worth of kit here in Canada, at that price we shouldn’t need to go running our spending higher with aftermarket anything.

She’s a beauty of a kit though and well past time for us to see a 1/32 Hornet on our hobby shop shelves. I’ll keep wishing for my lottery numbers to come up!

If you get the kit off ebay you’ll pay less than $100 for it!!,
do a search on “academy hornet”.

I got mine off an auction there for $79, so even with shipping to Canada and the exchange rate I was laughing the whole way.
(local model store sells it for $204CDN) -before tax

Whoops,
That’s what I get for going by memory!
Academy is what I meant. . .really. though I’m sure Hasagawa woulf have gotten it right too.
There is a plan for a two seater version as it alluded to in FSM, which may bring the price down for the single seater.
Sadly I am FORCED to buy one. I have the CAM decals for the squadron my nephew was in, I honestly htought they were 48th scale when I got them. . .A year ago.

Got mine as a birthday present and love it! I’ve seen a lot of F-18 cockpits, but this is the first that I think no aftermarket set can improve upon. I haven’t gotten past step 3 so I can’t comment on fit yet. All the optional parts are wonderful: early and late instrument panels, SJU-5 and NACES seats, louvered or grille type vents, early and late antennas, and of course all the weapons. I do highly recommend it, but the price of $109.00 it is a bit expensive for a model.

Here’s a beautiful review of the said aircraft… simply smashing

Someday, I hope to be part of the fortunate few to own one of those beautiful kits. From what I’ve seen, it’s simply stunning. PLease, please post pics of the build!
