Geez! there are still so many of the last releases I haven’t gotten yet, that I think I’m going to have to take out a reverse mortgage on my house to catchup. It really does look like we’re moving rapidly to $50.00 models as the norm? The Dragon series kits really do seem like they’re putting together a nice package when you purchase one though. Mike, I think even Dragon realizes that they can’t undersell forever. You could say that they helped knock Tamiya out of the 1/35 market, thus they must increase prices. Still, they’re at where Tamiya was some moons ago, but they add so many AM gear that it more than makes up for it. As long as they bring out cool subjects at an affordable price, I’m game.
Yep, looks like good stuff. I’m still waiting for my pre-order stuff from a couple months ago. Though I had issues over Dragon initially(remember the StugIV parts prob?) their kits have grown on me and their subjects are excellent. As far as the prices go I guess I’m so old I take the price rise in all products as the nature of the beast. I don’t like it but I’m used to it. I still like Tam. and just got their Pz III that is just killer. I shopped around and got it for $42.00 shipped.I do agree Dragon gives so much more for the spares box which is a luxury I hope we never lose.It is a statement to them that they occupy 75% of my stash. I just wish the kits would come out!!!
You are right, that’s the kit. I just looked at my Dragon pre-orders at Great Models… If they all came at once I’d have to go back to bookmaking…[party] I mean bookkeeping!! I’ve also been looking alot at their 250’s/251’s and am sure I’ll get a bunch! I know Jason, I have two on pre-order can’t Friggin’ wait!![banghead]
Pretty cool stuff! I may have to wait to get back to Japan to be able to afford some of the items;-p Plus they’re a bit cheaper and with a hobby shop membership one usually gets at least 10% off! - Calvin
I can’t wait to get my hands on the new M1 Panther kit. I’m glad I passed on the Trumpeter offering as the DML kit looks like it will be the better of the two kits. My guess on the secret items is that they will either be WW2 U.S. halftracks or a British Comet. The secret items have to be something that will generate a lot of interest when they are released. Just [2c]
You may be right about the M3 Halftrack. That has been on most peoples lists for some time and has been a pretty neglected topic. Comet also for that. Oh my wallets hurting already.
Interesting releases. Should do well, considering their recent record of 3-in-1 kits.
But I’m still left dreaming that either Dragon or Trumpeter will release a munitions carrier for their Morser Karl kits.
Interesting, Revel of germany has the nashorh listed in 1/72 also, thik its the same kit reboxed??? LOL Actualy that is one of the reason i enjoy the smaller scales so much. Example Take the Dragon Strumtiger, combnine it with the revel of germany lower hull (which has better detail) Throw in a PE set,a nd you are still only looking at under 30.00 bucks. Plus, and i say this regarding myself, i don’t always want to get bogged down in a long, drawn out build. I have a large model railroad for that. LOL There is something nice about 1/72 and 1/48 that lends itself to shorter builds. Those of you who can put 500 hours intot a model, i admire your results. Myself, i’ll work with shorter builds.

It seems like currently has the resources to attack on several fronts. They certainly are punching out a lot of 1/72 scale stuff, most of which seems to be of good quality and fun for a quick build. But they really don’t seem to have abandoned 1/35 to have done that. They are also getting into ships. From the info provided on Tigerman’s link, their Essex flattops seem to be pretty impressive kits at a decnt price for what is being provided. It seems more like they are simply expanding their target markets rather than diverting from one to an another.
I think giving DML somewhat of a pass in this regard is due to the presence of plenty of 1/35th kittage side-by-side with that 1/72 stuff. Tamiya has about nil listed along with their 1/48th line, sans the LeClerc and numerous finished offerings. Divine what one will from comparing those two listings.
DML caught plenty of flak for diving into the 12" poseable military figure world a few years back, if anyone remembers. Their releases in 1/35th were few and far between during that ramp-up period, too, fueling just as much speculation and rumor that they were getting out of 1/35th. Then their 1/72 pre-built “pocket armor” thing began, motorized even, and the 1/35th releases remained scant. Now, DML seems to release a new 1/35th kit or figure set every month.
Tamiya has that “love-hate” relationship amongst kit-builders for whatever reason, and a number of people like to beat up on them in newsgroups out of sheer schatenfreude(?), I think. At least Tamiya’s new venture is still in the model-kit-building world. DML’s went into wholly different, “un-model-like” areas.
