New Castle figures--NEED YOUR OPINIONS!!!

Ji guys–well, in case you didn’t see it in my thread on Neuschwanstein Castle, here’s some new, better in-scale figures of me and Jenn–they’re like, 1/44 or something? I’m not really sure, but…there’s the old figures on the left, and the newer, smaller figures on the right, and the new ones in the lower picture as well.

Do you think these look better in-scale? I do like the tall, lanky look of the larger figures, but they really are too big for scale. But does that matter, really?

Do the newer, smaller ones actually look too “dinky”? Or is the more accurate scale size better?

What’cha all think?By the way–here’s the actual size…

I like the taller ones… The smaller would be more accurate, but this is a present to Jenn… You want to be sure she actually sees the figures

[#ditto] I agree with Huxy. I think scale won’t matter to her as much as the look of the two more realistic looking figures of you two enjoying the view! BTW, this is an amazing build and a GREAT idea for a gift!! [:)]

I also like the taller ones, as I think they are much more in proportion. The other’s seem to be shorter, but about the same width. Either way, which ever ones you choose, she’s gonna love it. Well done! [bow]

Cheers,
Alex

I agree with all of the above… my guess is that scale won’t matter to her as much as the sentiment, and the larger figs represent you guys better. I like that the backs are turned from the viewer, as the hair length is the central clue.

Again, the who;e thing is just fantastic. When you want to retire, you can sit outside castles, with a mobile work bench, and sell models of the structures (along with personalized figs) to tourists. Kinda like a Caricaturist. [;)]

Ditto…and the taller ones have nicer @$$$e$…at least the one on the left…lol…

WOW, that’s a surprise–a unanimous verdict!

Funny; that’s kinda the way I was leaning too–I guess here’s a good example of where “Art” trumps “accuracy”? I do agree about the old figures really looking more realistic–even my mother called me and said “Oh my God, even the figures look just like you two!” (the old figures).

Interestingly, on the original castle model post, a few guys thought that the newer shorter figures were more corrrect-looking.

I guess I’m going to go with my gut, and with your opinions here–the old figures it is! [:D]

Thanks guys—I apppreciate the feedback! [:)]

If I might say one thing, try remodeling the new, midget figs and see if you can get them to looks more accurate. But still, the old ones do look better. Which one is you? The longer hair no doubt…[:D] Now I see why you have 2 articles in FSM in as many months!

I actualy have already tried that–in fact, these are the second set of “second” figures that I’ve tried to modify–they are little blobs of white metal, and not the easiest things to modify. I actually cut away quite a bit of metal from them–as much as I dared–and tried to get them looking “skinnier”–but the basic fault is in their proportions; they’re just built that way. Originally, they’re two German soldiers, with gear on them, and helmets! And that’s just hard to work with!

I like the ones in the bottom picture, they just look so…real. Especially for that scale! [:D]

I like the scale of the smaller ones better but the larger ones have a more realistic and natural stance. Both of the smaller ones look like - well , they could be writing their names on the walkway …[:-^]

LOL! You’re absolutely right! HAHA!!!

I agree that the smaller ones are better in-scale, but I guess the real question is how the visual impact ofthe scene conveys? I mean, unless you actually look at theside-by-side reference photo of it and notice how really huge the front “door” actually is, the bigger figures convey a more realistic image of being “me and Jenn”, I think…anyone feel the same?

EDIT----Hey, why didn’t I think of this? I’ll give it to Jenn with the regular figures in it, but hold on to the other figures, and ask her what she likes best–the “big” ones, or the “small”?

Problem solved! [:D] Thans for weighing in, guys!!!

"The entire world held it’s breath once the first post of this magnificent Diorama was posted. A castle done by The Doog himself, as a present to his girlfriend. It could only mean one thing, Care. Slowly but surely, Doog posted more and more pictures, the worlds faces turned more and more purple. Then, the castle was done. The world screamed in “WOW” and had no more words for it. It was the biggest smallest castle ever.

But what was this? He posts a question, he lets the world say its opinion on the figures to representate himself and his girlfriend. The world replies, and he let his girlfriend choose, on christmas eve."

I think I got to describe my opinion on this wonderful, amazing job you’ve done! Jenn will love it!

And now I’m off to the local fort… Kvalvik Fort, the best saved coastal fort in all of Europe  German WWII… I’ll get some references if you guys want one day…

Good luck on Christmas eve, Doog. Tell us what she said was the best!

I have to agree with everyone else - use the taller figures - but I’d also add that putting the figures a little ways down the ramp like you have done, instead of right up under the gate, helps mitigate the fact that the larger figures are a little too large. In the head-on shots of the castle that you’ve posted, the figures don’t really look out of scale unless you compare the two sets of figures side-by-side. If you move them maybe 1/4 inch further down the ramp it’ll be even harder to tell that the scale is off.

By the way Karl, it needs to be said again… the whole dang thing is amazing and Jenn is gonna love it! Your attention to detail isn’t going to be lost on her.

Kevin

Doog, in case you didn’t see it, please see my post on the original post.
