I decided to pick up this one and give it a try. It’ll be mostly straight out of the box. but i’m sure i’ll add some extra wiring for details. But I’m pretty sure i’m not going to paint this yellow. I’ll probably go bright red.
It’s a great looking Vette, very aggressive! Look forward to seeing yours when it’s done!
I have this kit in the stash - looking forward to your build!
I got some work done on the motor today. It’s actually ready to drop into the bottom panel, so there’s not a lot of parts. I’m hoping to have the chassis buttoned up tomorrow.
Also, I’m not sure if any of you are like me, but I don’t really build kits in a linear way. Since I wanted the red highlights to have time to cure, I started there. The seat had divots to represent ventilation holes. So I drilled them out. ultimately the seat will be black but the ventilation holes will have red highlights.
Hmmm;
Looking good so far!
slow work day means more work done on this kit. But to be fair there’s not a lot there and I decided to forgo going crazy with the details and build this straight out of the box. Mostly. Honestly, this wouldn’t be a bad kit to add uber details but after spending 2+ months on the Ecto, masking and sanding and adding little bits of detail, I couldn’t stomach it. Had I not, I probably would have done so.
So far the only thing I don’t like about this kit is that the axles are set up to allow the model to roll. So there are solid axles for this kit. and the front axle goes directly behind the pulley assembly, but in front of the engine block. See if you can spot it
Love the disc brakes and wheels. Are the Michelin decals the reverse ones like you find on Tamiya car kits?
To be honest I’m not familiar with Tamiya kits to say one way or the other.
These look like good kits. Looking forward to more here.
They are standard waterslide decals.
The Tamiya Ferrari 640 F1 car I’m building has Goodyear Eagle decals for the slicks. you put the color side down and use water for adhesion.
Nice job with the Vette.
Drilling out the holes in the seat looks to have paid off. I ended up just using tooth picks to mask the holes and paint the seat flat black. I was also able to get the roll cage and dash installed. All that is left to paint the body and decal everything up. This build is coming along faster than I anticipated at this rate it should be done by the end of the week or early next week and I’ll have to find something else to work on.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Well. That didn’t end well. I ran out of Tamiya paint so i grabbed my Model Masters Acrylic. So when I pulled off the masking tape, the paint went along with it. And now I get to strip all the interior that I painted, prime and then repaint. Neat…
double whammy, the jinx was on from 2 posts up where you thought you’d be done fast and then the finicky acrylics finished it off [:'(]. I feel for you with regard to the paint. I still can’t figure out the secret to never having the acrylic peel(aside from never ever using vallejo’s primer again).
Vette is looking great. Can’t wait to see the final color coat!
The Model Master acrylics have a reputation of pulling up when masked. I’ve gone from enamels to Tamiya’s acrylic lacquers in the spray can. They are just about bullet proof and dry to a smooth, hard finish that can be rubbed out within a week or two versus the month enamels take. I like what you’ve done with the chassis, look forward to more.
Looking good so far. I finished this same kit about 4 months ago. Posted the build on here so you can check it out and maybe get some inspiration or ideas for yours.
Uh-oh… are those tires in two halves?
This build is moving along well so far but I feel your pain on the MM acrylic paint lift. Been there…done that.
Apparently the search feature on this site is very spotty. I tried to search for it with no luck. But to be fair this post doesn’t show in the search either. Luckily Google came through. Your build is fantasticYou built what I wish I had the ambition to do with this kit. But I was a little burned out after completing the Ecto. So I went straight out of the box on this one.
