NEW 1/72 Type XXIII U Boat German Submarine

I just found this on Trident Hobbies

I can’t find any reviews about the kit. Anyone heard or have seen anything as of yet?

Flaver-it was just released-reviews should be coming soon.

Can’t wait!!!

Looks really cool, but it doesn’t look like a type XXIII U-boat…

I’d have to say that it absolutely doe look like a XXIII…in fact, if it’s as good looking as the cover art, it’s a very nice representation of that class… Are you sure you’re not thinking of the later version XXIII, the HAI and the HECHT, that had their conning towers radically modified? Or the Type XXI?

Couple of things about the box art…if that’s supposed to be a training boat with the stripe on the tower, it should be yellow, not white. Plus, no boat would be out with the railings in place like that on the foredeck.

$65 seems a little pricey for a plastic kit with some add ons in resin and brass…but I would like to see a review as well.

Gents I’m not a ship builder at all but I saw this kit yesterday on the shelf at the LHS and it looks lovely!!! Nice crisp detail, very nice looking clean resin parts and a nice little PE fret for some of the fiddly bits.

I was surprised by how small it was compared with the Revell kit, but to me that’s a definite advantage for storage and display.

I plan on going back to the LHS at lunchtime to put it on lay away [:D]

Cheers
Darren

Sam-it’s a little expensive but it is 1/72 scale-but according to Flaver’s link good grammar is not included. I think I’d get the Revell kit as this XXIII version doesn’t look U-boatish enough for me.

good grammar?

I already have one of the Revell Type VIIs.

Accurate Armour makes an awesome 1/35 scale waterline model of the XXIII that complements their 1/35 scale waterline Type VII. That’s the only other “decent” sized static model of the XXIII that I know of.

I know what you mean about looking “U-boatish” enough, but I’m a big fan of the XXIII. I’ve already built one in 1/24 scale for R/C, and liked it so much I got a second one. It’s single screw design makes it’s drive train easy to set up. It’s hull shape and conning tower still gives the modeler railings, scopes, snorkel, etc. to detail, and the hull is large enough that if you wanted to consider working torpedos, you can. It’s a cool little coastal sub, with the Type XXI in its genes.

The link uses ‘specially’ instead of ‘especially’-just my editorial tidiness-no reflection on you.
