Need reference help for Grille 30 (auf King Tiger)

Hi everyone,

I’d like to build a model of the Grille 30 (88mm dismountable artillery gun mounted on a modified King Tiger) However, I can only find 2 photos, both from the Achtung Panzer website, and neither being very helpful, seeing that the gun is missing. Does anyone know of any other existing photos or blueprints/drawings?

I am not sure if this is the standard Tiger II chassis - the front glacis and forward engine deck look a bit like the Tiger II(P), but the road wheels are the same…

Isn’t this on the list of future Dragon kit releases? I thought I saw this on PMMS…or somewhere…as a upcoming release? Though I can’t seem to find anything about it online.

Kykeon,

Trumpeter announced a future release of a Grille II 17cm Waffentrager at the Tokyo show, is that the one you’re thinking of?

Trumpeter… Dragon…My head spins from all these new kits, thanks for straightening that one out for me. I wasn’t sure which armament the upcoming kit was to have either.

Hermes, The Grille 30 (Gerat 817) was to be armed with Skoda 305mm GrW L/16 mortar, not an 88. The 17cm K72 (Sf) (Gerat 809) or “Grille II” (see image below), was to have the removable 17cm gun. There were also plans for a 21cm and 42cm weapon based on this chassis.

The whole series is described here; http://www.achtungpanzer.com/pz13.htm

Along with the 2 you have, this is the only other one I know of online.

There is a 4th one in the Encyclopedia of German Tanks of WW2 by Chamberlain and Doyle P.145

Can’t wait to see what the kit will look like!

Thanks for the link, pretty crazy stuff. That will be some kit when it comes out.

It would be fun to stuff a 42cm mortar in this, if one could only find the plans. [sigh]

That would be a dream coming true…

But if no one can find a good picture or the plans, then I’ll just have to imagineer the interior…oh well, at least the judges won’t be able to say it’s wrong[:-^]
