Need part identification on Scientific Models Cutty Sark

City Sark partDoes anyone know for what this metal cast part is used on a Cutty Sark?Cutty Sark Part

Anchor stock, maybe?

I haven 't got a clew…

Not an anchor part. I have four of them in the kit.

I have a metal anchor in the kit.

Question , Bill ;

Could it be some kind of spreader ?

Crossbar of the forward windlass?

I have the forward windlass constructed according to plans.

I’m sorry but could you elaborate on spreader?

Has anyone seen something close to this this on any model - wood or metal? The only guess I have is it has something to do with the sails, masts or rigging. Everything else on the ship seems to be accounted for.

It looks exactly like an anchor stock.

I should have scaled it in the photo. I think it’s too large for the model to be part of an anchor beings it‘s nearly 1” long.

I concur. Was this a kit bought new, or used? It may have been part of another kit. I have had extra parts that somehow accidently got dropped in, even on new kits, especially on wood kits where there are no parts trees.

Is there only one?

Not an anchor stock, windlass, pump jack, even too large for a tee brace or cross tree.

I may conure as well, maybe it didn’t belong in the kit or is a piece of gate slag that found its way into the bag when the parts were being casted.

I have found four of them in the kit.

I Purchased the original kit in the late 50s. I essentially had the hull and decking surface completed. From that time to the present many of the parts, including the parts bags, were somehow lost so I bought another kit on eBay. The eBay kit was the one that contained all the metal parts I needed. The two kits are marked the same as far as the boxes are concerned, but the ship model itself has some slight variances in build. The newer 1975 kit is working well with the older kit.

Ok, another random wild guess: An itme to go under the keel after the kist is mounted to a base?

That’s from the quantity, four; the length, about an inch, and the big oval hole in the top with hints of iron bands on the sides.

Interrgog: This is the 18" Cutty Sark, correct?

It’s not an anchor stock for Cutty Sark. Cutty Sark had iron bar stocks, the kind with a ball on one end.

It’s the larger of the two kits, I think 23". I have the smaller one.

I think Don is correct- parts from another kit.

I have a Model Shipways yellow box kit, a really old one that I bought on eBay. It had an entire little rigging tool kit, all handmade tools, in a little handmade wood tool box.

The hull is 18” and 23” with the bowsprit.
