I’m pretty new to gundam modeling, I bought a 1/100 scale Tallgeese III a few days ago.I just finished building it. I inked the panel lines but I’m thinking about painting it a bit, but I dont know were to start. I need a few tips on what kinds of paints and techniques I should use. Any advice would be apreciated!

That is a pretty good site for something they called the Max Technique for gundam painting, something very popularly done to gundams in japan. Which in the real world, we just call it preshading. Also you can do a wash for the panel lines after you finish painting it. It’s the same as your “inking”, cept for we normally use very much thinned oil or acrylic paints. Acrylic paints are more recommended for easier clean ups during airbrushing processes. A lot of gundam modelers in japan uses Gunze but those Tamiya ones are just fine anyways. Basic color set will be White for the tallgeese’s general color, a dark shade of grey for the joins n internal frame, and a light shade of blue (Tamiya Field or Medium Blue fit the bill well enough) for the other color on the tallgeese, and Black for the preshading and some other details. A final dull/flat overcoat will be recommended as well since you probably will be handling the model (face it, it’s poseable! it’s a toy! and you will play with it!).

Hmmm… without an airbrush, it’s pretty hard to create shadings on the flat panels of the armor, especially for such large kits like the Gundams. You can however, mix in a lil more grey into the white overall color, and use white to drybrush the edges of the armor. And use like a lighter shade of blue to highlight the edges of the blue colored parts. That’s done with a paintbrush. Doing that and the darkwash, you can already get a pretty good finish on a gundam.
