If you burn out on your conversion of the Arizona into the Texas, Samek models produces 2 1/700 scale USS Texas BB-35 kits in resin. One kit is the ship in its 1942 configuration, the second in its 1945 configuration. [C):-)][2c]

Hi.

I have some pics of the Texas if you need some detail shots.

I live fairly close to her.

Regards.

Richard.

Scott,
If cost is an issue, you might hunt around for a Lindberg kit of the Essex class carrier. You might find it boxed as USS Wasp or USS Yorktown or USS Boxer. It has a lot of 20mm and 40mm guns, as well as 4 twin 5" mounts. The kit should be found for about $15, and even though it may not be a contest-quality model itself, the small guns may serve your needs on a limited budget.

EdGrune,
Are those pics of the 20mm guns 1/700 scale or 1/350 scale? I’m making a 1/350 scale
Essex and they would look great on the catwalks. Are they pricey?

Scott, I’ve ordered 5" gun barrels at the 1/350 scale from L’Arsenal/ PacificFront.com
and was very happy with the quality.[^]

Those are 1/350 scale. L’Arsenal makes some of the finest detail parts in the business.

Jeff

They are superb. Hopefully they’ll come out with the 1.1 guns soon.

Here’s how they look on a model (note they look better THAN the model!). From left to right are 20mm guns, a 5 inch twin mount and a 40mm quads.

Hey, I recognize that model!! [:)]

Jeff

You should - you gave it to me!

I had the same idea, turning the Arizona into the Texas. Since I lived in Houston prior to joining the military, I had quite a few personal photos of the Texas in my collection. I also have a couple books on the Texas. After combing the internet for additional references on the Arizona and Texas, and accumulating a substantial amount of info, I tracked down a couple Arizona models for purchase. I then sat down and studied all the ref’s, after a couple days of wrestling with the idea, I decided not to pursue my ideas. The Arizona is longer, wider, has different hull layout, and deck layout. I thought it to daunting a project for now. If you continue with it, please post pics as you go, and good luck with the build.
