I’m building ICM’s 1/350 Konig and wanted the look of real wood as opposed to a painted deck. I purchased a KONIG wood deck set from “Scale Decks.com”. Let me first say the look and the fit is absolutely superb! Well worth the investment.
The problem im having is now that my decks are glued in place,…they tend to buckle and warp with the changing weather. The adhesive I used to cement the decks in place is “Gator Glue”…seemed to be the best results of the couple of glues I tried. I havent added the superstructure or anything else to the decks yet,…no PE rails or any thing,…Its been 2 weeks since the decks were laid and they keep contracting and expanding into warps and such as the weather and humidity changes . Im sure this will not stop. What happened? this is my first wood application,…did I need to pre-treat or maybe “seal” the wood before installing?
Im a bit discouraged here,…anyone know a fix for this,…or maybe “tips” on laying wood decks?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance

You need to seal both sides and all edges with a good non-water based wood sealer/finishing product.
Check the hardware store for a varnish product. Thin it well and apply.
As you have found, thin wood products absorb humidity and move, cup, and warp. Sealing the wood minimizes the opportunities for water absorption. Be sure to do both sides as water could still enter through the bottom surface
Thanx for the reply Ed!
I wonder if something like “Formbies” Tung Oil refinishing wood sealer would do the trick? Its not water based.

[dto:]…and do this when they are laying flat or you will be left with a permanent warp…
well its been a year now …I sealed the deck like the suggestions u guys gave. I contacted John over at “ScaleDecks” an he said to apply the deck with testors red tube glue…that didnt work!!
Then I tried a brush on rubber cement…no go!
The last thing I did was use 3M’s weather stripping adhesive in the spray can…it held!! Still has some ripples and waves but was able to complete the build with satisfactory results.
Ive got a Missouri ww2 version in the stash with all the aftermarket parts and WEM PE and FlyHawk PE sets along with the “Wood Deck” Its going to be an all out build when I complete it…hmmm…kinda leary now about using this wood deck on her…
Doesn’t the wood deck come with adhesive already applied? I have used two decks so far, and all I had to do was peel and stick to the original plastic deck. I have had no difficulties.

The Products from “Scale Decks” do not come with adhesive…and they are much thinner and finer than most decks I have seen… But there in itself Is the drawback I guess Bill
