Hi, I’m hoping that somone out there can render some assistance regarding the proper color to paint my Panda version of an Arleigh Burke destroyer. I recently purchased the 1/350 Panda kit and intend to make it the USS Stethem for my son who served on her 1999 to 2001. The Panda kit ‘recomends’ a type of paint I do not have access to. My local hobby shop has Model Master paint and I would like to use that for this ship. However, I need 3 different shades of gray and there are over 8 shades available! Help!!! Has anyone out there got any idea of which shades are right? Thanks in advance for all your help.
Frank
Frank,
Try these sites. May not have the exact FS number for the paint, but at least you can get an idea of the shade.

Frank-
Here what I use on modern US Ships:
Model Master Paints-
NEUTRAL Grey- is a very close approximation to current Haze Grey for overall color
GUNSHIP Grey for non-skid decks.
Just a suggestion…good luck

Here’s your colors in FS 595A
Haze Gray: FS 36270
Deck Gray: FS 36008
These can be lightened or drybrushed for scale effect.

Carl, Len and Jeff,
Thank you very , very much! Just what the doctor ordered! Now all I have to do is get new decals. Panda’s are (how do you politely say) stinkers. I’m trying to build DDG-63 and the decal sheet has only one “6”. Sigh… The photoetch set cost more than the model. However I can’t wait to see the look on his face when he gets it.
Again, thanks to all. Frank
Frank,
Try some AM decals for ships hull numbers. I’ve seen them out there, just can’t remember which company.
It’s funny, my wife and I were having lunch on Coronado this afternoon and who should come back through San Diego bay from a work up cycle…the USS STETHEM.[:)]
