Need help with Academy 1/48 Mig-29, F-15D, F-14A Paint reference

Finally decided to jump out of the armor, aka target, world, and give modern jet fighter a try. My only two painted aircrafts were a 1/72 P-40N and a F4U corsair, so as of experience level I’d say it’s zero…

Anyways, I just got a bunch of Academy 1/48 kits, but they were pretty vague on the paint schemes. The F-14A kit didn’t even have a color listed… The decal is for VF-143 puking dog dated around the 70s. The F-15D kit lists F.S.36320 Light Gray and F.S. 36375 Medium Gray for the ghost gray scheme. The Mig-29A had colors listed as, FS 36118 Gunship Gray (I have Gunship Gray from ModelMaster to substitute German Panzer Grey…), FS 35327 Blue Gray, FS 36375 Light Gray.

I have only used ModelMaster Enamels and Tamiya Acylics. It’d be greatly appreaciated if anyone can help me find the appropriate color choices for those two brands of paints. Much thanks ahead of time.

Hi Ryan… I have just completed the 1/48 Academy MiG-29UB two seater… The first question I have to ask is, what airforce is it going to represent?. German, Russian, Polish, ect ect…

As for me, I went with Tamiya JapaneseI.J.N Light grey… The reason I chose it for the German MiG-29 was because I usually go with what looks to the eye… The Luftwaffe MiG-29’s have a bluey grey look to them, and so the I.J.N Light grey was perfect for that…

Mine…

In this second pic, if you look at the darker areas on the aircraft. I used Tamiya Neautral grey to give it a subtle two tone and shading.

Thinking about modeling the Russian AF (Those paint color they asked for really reminded me of the SU-27). The west german one they requested for a NATO…ish paint scheme.

I am by no means an expert, and infact the MiG-29UB is the first Russian built aircraft I have ever built… But from doing my studies. The German’s also painted the MiG-29A’s in the black, green, brown, and tan camo with grey belly. I guess that was an old paintjob from the East German day’s?.. I have heard nothing but good stories about this aircraft!
