I’m trying to find 1/48 markings for an F-106 Delta Dart which flew out of Hamilton AFB near San Francisco in the late 60s, early 70s. My dad got to fly in one while he was in the AF (rear seat ride, he wasn’t a pilot) and I was thinking about building one up for him. No problem finding a kit, just need the markings.
My dad flew the F-106 so I have a ton of reference materials but they do not list which squadrons where stationed at the different AFB. If you could get the squadron I could probably at least you some pics of the squadron planes. I have a sheet for the 87th Red Bull Squadron - dad’s unit- in 1/48 if you want to try a fast one.
Looks like it was the 84th FIS out of Hamilton. I haven’t found any markings yet, but it looks like the tail fin flash I could probably mask off and paint myself. Other markings would be handy, though (like the squadron patch).
I’m sorry but I’m not going to be much help. This is what I’ve found out so far; Hamilton was closed down in '69 with the 84th being moved to Castle AFB. The 84th also moved from f-106 fighters to t-33 trainers. We know an old squadron commander of the 84th but old wife threw out all of his mementos.
Knight667, here’s a site you should check-out. I just found it on the Aircraft forum. It’s an F-106 site with info and pix on all base’s the 6 was flown from. http://www.f-106deltadart/index.htm
You may find your markings here. If so, copy the pictures, edit out the rest of the pix, clean-up the graphic, and print your own decals. [:)]
