Need help A.S.A.P.. Plese, please, please!

Hi guys… Not going to believe this… But when I built my F-15J… As a great idea, I decided to put a whole blob of putty in the nose cone for extra weight in the front of the model… (ok, well I thought it was a great idea. And untried as it was, I did it)[:I]

last night I was looking at it, and I noticed that the nose has gone a little dimpled, and so on further inspection, noticed that the whole nose piece plastic was soft like putty itself…

I have a feeling, that by not allowing the putty to dry properly before attaching the nose cone. Then it has never been able to dry, and so the alcohol in it has melted the cone plastic… I have since removed it. But I now need a new nose cone for my F-15J… This is a big ask I know… But does anyone have a spare 1/72 nose cone for an F-15?.. The model I have is the cheaper Hasegawa release of the Japanese F-15J…But I am sure that any nose cone will fit from an F-15…

Cheers, Chris in Japan[:I]

Sorry to hear about your problem Chris. I knew exactly what happened after I read you used putty in the nose. Oops. I’ve got a nice sized box of Modeling Clay to use as noseweight. Good luck in finding a nosecone, if I had one I would ship it out to you.

Chris? I can’t personally help you. But, you might try this.

It couldn’t hurt.

Thanks guys for the help… I am actually in a bit of a rush, as I have a second one that I am ready to start… They will be sitting with each other when completed…

Just a little information on putty. Ordinary putty is a bit agressive because of the acetone in the putty. So if you want to put weight in an model, putty is not the way to go. (trust me, I’ve made the same mistake) Modeling clay is an option. Or lead (or any other metal) which you can glue with a pva glue of CA glue.

Hey Chris, Hasegawa’s customer service is GREAT!
I had an “accident” with their Volkswagen Beetle kit, and they sent me a new body in two days, for about 400 yen.
You can’t beat that!
There should be an order form on the instruction sheet.

Hey thanks Brian… I didnt even think about that… I have ordered stuff from Bandai before, but didnt think about Hasegawa doing it!.. Thanks mate!

Chris

If you have a second one, why not make a resin copy of that one’s nose?
