Need finishing techniques advices

Hi everybody.

I have been building for a few years, but just started recently to airbrush and apply finishing techniques. My problem is that I am getting a bit confused reading on the forums about what to do, when and with what. I have seen some really good builds here, and wish to try to go in this direction. I am mainly building WWII German armors. The current subject is Panzer Grey. Here’s what I was planning to do.

I just finished airbrushing. I was thinking of giving it a coat of future, then do any additional brush painting (not that good yet, I want to be able to correct without messing up the base coat). I was also planning to apply the decals at this point. I would then do another coat of future to seal everything.

This is where I’m a bit confused. I want to try a pin wash (looks better than a sludge one), filters, drybrush, chipped paint and apply some pastel/pigments. In which order should I do all of that?? I was planning to use real rust powder, is it feasible?

I will also make a trip to an art supply store. What kind of supplies should I need for those washes and filters? (color wise). All of my subjects will most likely be German grey, dark yellow with red brown and green camo, and lastly, maybe a white washed winter camo.

Thanks!

You must make the washes before applying any pigments or pastels. That’s the only thing important I think. As far as material required, you should think of buying a bottle of turpenoid to mix with the pigments for different effects but mostly to help fix the pigments to the model. And most important of all, you must spray a flat coat all over the model before applying the powders, otherwise, it will not adhere properly to it. Here is a usefull “how-to” article about pigments.
