Need colours for a Hawker Hunter.

I am looking for specifics for the blue underside and grey and green topside. Preferably in Tamiya or Humbrol. Thanks in advance.

I picked up the 1/72 Eastern Express kit. I think it is an old Frog kit. What a terrible kit! Huge gaps at the wing root. Terrible fit. No detail; the cockpit is a flat shelf with a head and shoulders sticking out of it. And the instructions came without painting details; thus my request. But heck, any model is fun to build right.

Cheers,

Duncan

Duncan,

Sounds like it is the old Frog kit, enjoy the challenge!

Colours you’ll need are (Humbrol) 164 Dark sea grey, 195 Dark green, & for the underside, 196 light grey will do nicely. Wheel wells & inside the doors is silver or matt aluminium, same for the landing gear, though that’s probably not well detailed either.

All the best

Pete

Thanks Pete. Are you sure about the underside? It looks blue on the box lid.

hawker hunters have light grey undersides. I’ve never seen one with a bluie underside.

I didn’t have a lot to do with Hunters in the RAF, but the ones I did work on were a very pale grey, almost off white, on their undersides.

Other marks of the aircraft were seen in wraparound Dark sea & dark green, in later years, so you might get away with that if it takes your fancy.

Saudi hunters were two tone brown with almost a PR blue underside. I’ve got the 1/72nd Revell kit, I’ll be building that as a Royal Saudi Air Force Hunter, just to be different. I’ve had Revells 1/32nd Hunter for a few years now, still not gotten around to building it, can’t make up my mind which scheme to go for!.

It’s likely that the boxtop art has a bit of ‘artistic licence’, most do. As I said, good look with the kit.

Thanks again guys. Good information. Now to sanding all the putty I had to lay down. [(-D]
