Need books for the US Meduim M4 Sherman Early Production

Does anybody have some good books on this tank and where I could get them [sigh][banghead][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]

Squadron.com has a book called Walk Around the M4 Sherman by Squadron/Signal, runs around $14-15 and is a great photo reference at a decent price.

  • The two Concord series “Sherman at War” and “U.S. Tank Battles” by Zaloga have excellent photos of wartime Shermans. Several books in each series, with each book costing about $16 each. Excellent “bang for the buck”.

  • The Walk Around book previously mentioned is good to, and another excellent “bang for the buck”. Available through places like www.greatmodels.com or even squadron.com.

  • Tanks in Detail from Ian Allen Publishing has a few books on the Sherman. These too, are pretty good. amazon.com, and i think squadron.com sells these.

  • The Osprey book on the Shermans by Zaloga is good

  • For Israeli Shermans, the book by Thomas Gannon is excellent. Darlington Productions was the publisher, but it may be difficult to find now.

Finally, check through your library system for Sherman, the exhaustive, end-all book by R.P. Hunnicutt. I suggest through your local library because finding the book is difficult at best, and it’ll easily cost you $300 or more through anyone on eBay or otherwise. There is the rare occurence it shows up in a few of the second hand bookstores for it’s original price of about $80-$100 dollars.

Just to throw my [2c] in the pot, I agree with the above mentioned books. I tend to shop on ebay for mine. This is the link to the M4 Walk Around. I got it for like 7.50 on ebay and it retails for between 12 and 15 dollars depending on where you are. Well anyways here it is. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2588&item=5971333056&rd=1

there all good books
what kit are you building

Another excellent book is Squadron/Signal’s “Sherman in Action” which reatils for about ten bucks. Their “in Action” series for just about any subject will have a ton of photos that, if studied carefully, can provide a wealth of details. If one is available, I will almost always pick up an “in Action” booklet when I buy a new model.

Just an educated guess here, but since the person is asking about references for a “US Meduim M4 Sherman Early Production” in the subject title, I would surmise that he is either building:

  • 1/35 scale Tamiya M4 Early (possible)

  • 1/48 scale Tamiya M4 Early (most likely since it is the latest kit)

  • 1/72 scale ExtraTech M4 Early (least likely, expensive & HTF)

I recommend the Squadron/Signal “Walk Around” over the old “In Action” book because it is a much better pictorial reference for marginally more money. I did not recommend the R.P. Hunnicutt book since it is HTF and can run someone in the $200 range. Likewise, the Ampersand Modeler’s Guide to the M4 Sherman is a good book, but recently someone bought one on eBay for $100+, so it is getting a little too expensive (and is soon to be updated).

Osprey did a decent modeler’s guide as well, but I think it is out of print as well.

that would be good to think that
but did you see his last posts theres some about Shermans and some about Tigers
and the Question for for Spitfiresrock as he has never replied back to any of his posts, i thought that might give him a way to say
he has been on this thread 4 times that ive noticed so he’s seen all this info
