need 1/32 P-51 decals

A good friend of mine, now 85 years of age, is wanting to build a 1/32 scale model of the P-51D he flew in WWII (he was credited with shooting down a German Me-262 fighter). Anyway, he has an old kit that is the visible P-51 model where you can see inside details because of the clear fuselage half.

He doesn’t have any decals, so I’m wondering where I can get a good set of decals that have the basic markings and nomenclature placards that he can apply to his model he’ll be making.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Davegeee

Visit any of the retailer websites such as Sprue Brothers and do a search on 1:32 P-51…every thing they have will be listed including decal offerings.

try this the name of it is ZOTZDECALS.COM they have alot i mean alot of decals from the smallist to the biggest there e-mail is ZOTZ17@YAHOO.COM.

Hi Dave and welcome to the forum!

Have you had any luck tracking down some P-51 decals in 1/32 scale? I have practically an entire sheet of decals from a Hasegawa Mustang in that scale. I had ordered a set of aftermarket decals so I never used the kit supplied. I’m almost positive it’ll have the complete set of insignias, stencils, etc.

Contact me and I’ll drop them in the mail for you. They’re yours if you want/need them.

Thanks!

Eric

Hi Eric: that is a very kind and generous offer! They are not for me, but my good friend, Col. Bill Getz, USAF (ret.) Bill flew 31 combat missions in the ETO as a B-24 AC. After that, when he could have by all rights rotated home, he chose to stay another tour flying P-51Ds with the 2nd AD Scouting Forces. He received one DFC for his B-24 flying, and another for his work with the Scouts. He named his plane “Saucy Shirley” for a girlfriend back home (who jilted him while he was away fighting the war!). Bill then returned home from the war and celebrated his 21st birthday! He was the youngest 4-engine AC in the ETO.

Bill is now 86, somewhat frail, but has a great mind, and interest and capabilities to do some good modeling work. He has an old Monogram(?) clear kit in 1/32 scale that he will probably finish up part clear, part in the markings of his aircraft. I know he would be delighted with receiving your decals, as this will probably be his last project.

If you would be so kind, you can send them directly to Bill. I’ll leave the address below. Thanks again for your generous offer, and I think you can know you’ll make an old man and a true American hero very happy!

Cheers,

Dave

Here is the address you can send the decal sheet;

Mr. Bill Getz
4107 Constitution Avenue
Fairfield, CA 94533

Please let me know if you have any questions/comments on this.

Thanks Dave!

I’ll do anything I can for our vets. Tonight I’m going to prepare the envelope to send out Mr. Getz. I could be wrong but I think I might even have a good part of those aftermarket decals left over as well. The AM decal sheet had three marking variants on it and I only used one version. I’ll check for that sheet and, if I have it, those will be sent to Mr. Getz as well.

Please give him my best wishes and let him know that there are so many of us out there who are eternally grateful for his service to our county. Tell him that a couple of months ago, my six year old daughter asked me what a soldier was. I told her that they’re the ones who keep her safe when she sleeps at night. I told her they’re the ones who have given her and me the freedom we know today. I told her they’re the reason this is the greatest nation on earth.

Eric

Hi Eric: I forwarded your comments to Bill. I know he will be very moved by your kind words. If you care to see some interesting photos of Bill and his planes, email me sometime at

dave_gianakos@yahoo.com I’ll see you get some photos of the model as he gets going on it. He hasn’t done many models, but the ones he has done have really turned out super.

Cheers,
