ne1 ever make 1:35 ammo casings and links? need help.

hi guys…would like to know how to do it…more the links part than the casings as that’s the hard part. thought about using wire…not flat enough, thought about using brass shim…not sure…thought about using foil…again not sure. any help would be appreciated. thanks as always guys! i also posted this in the general modeling forum. my appologies if i should have left it there…maybe even the techniques forum…thanks guys. If you can find the lead wire they use for tying flies for fly fishing, you can easily flatten it with the handle of an x-acto knife. Cut these and bend them over some wire roughly the same thickness as your shell casings. Once trimmed to size you’ll have your links. If this is for a 1/35 scale project, you want to create the impression of links more than trying to manufacture scale links. Its all relative to the context its viewed in. Rather than spend a fortune buying these little scale casings that some companies make, brass wire clipped to the close length and piled around a machine gun emplacement become a pile of hundreds of spent casings. Evidence of a great seige and the apparent demise of several unfortunates to Maxim’s progeny.

very cool as i will have to try that. assuming i can find this fly fishing thing. im no fisherman! [:D]

Try Bass Pro Shops and if not, Tiger Model Designs carries various diameters of this wire. A little more expensive but still an option.

If you are looking for .50 cal rounds and links, Mission Models makes empty shells and full rounds with links in PE/brass that can be built up pretty nicely. They look good, but are pricey and are a real bitch to bend the links to shape.

You can see a review of them here.

I prefer thin plastic rod, painted and cut to length. You can see how they can turn out below.

thanks gino…kinda what i had in mind in terms of the casings…which what you have would work. my biggest thing is trying to get the links (spent). i suppose i will have to try a few things to see. thanks again as i will you that for my casings. perhaps i can also use those links in terms of making some on my own…fantastic. thanks gino!!

Find some of the thin sheet lead. Cut a narrow strip the width of the links. Press over a styrene set of 50 cal rounds and use as a guide to cut…It will be mind numbing…but it is a though.

Any way you go about it…it’s not just a female dog but is more like a female dog in the process of mating!!

But, if you pull it off will look great

Rounds Complete!!

thanks red. i have a couple ideas on top of what’s been given. and considering the scale…i totally believe you on the difficulty i face!!! [:D]
