OK,
here’s the scoop, y’all.
I am dead broke.
Yep, dead broke. Nada, nohl-ski in the bank account. I don’t even have the money to take the gal I’m a courtin’ out to anywhere fancy! This means I make do with the bottom of the barrel, tool-wise(and manage to make very good models anyhoot, if you ask me!).
I don’t have an airbrush, therefore, I use brushes. So, how do I brush a natural metal finish? Also, what shade should I use? I have Testor’s Model Master Military Enamel “Steel”,“Aluminum”, and Testor’s “Silver”. Which color would do best?
BUMP, gotta keep this topic where people can see it!
I take it no one knows how to answer the question, huh?
go to the hobby store and buy some sandpaper and a spray can of metalizer. sand. sand more. sand even more. the spray on. admire… then give me $5<–jk
good to hear, now, to answer the question,
how do I BRUSH a natural metal finish on?! I don’t even have the money for a spray can! I just want my darn brush-painting!
I’d have to say that hand brushing a natural metal airframe probably wouldn’t give you results that you’d be happy with.
The only two options would be to try and find a spray can that has a color that you can live with, or get some Bare Metal Foil and do the plane with that.
Just recently there was an article in FSM where a guy did a 1/48(I think) P-38 in foil. Didn’t look bad at all…
But hand brushing? I’d steer clear of that.
Cheers.

Well I’ll be watching this one closely!
I would love to see someone come up with a viable answer to this.
I try to steer clear of NMFs even with an airbrush…I just can’t ever seem to get them to look like NATURAL… . … METAL…FINISHES. If only I could, my very next project would be the P51D “Moonbeam McSwine”. Now there’s a finish I’d love to be able to replicate.
Good luck!
I use humbrol metal-cote paint it on let it dry then polish till yer arms ache. but i have never tried brushing it on. You will have to get a damn good finish before you start polishing …Good luck and i hope this helps. Gregers
