Nascar Dioramas

I am trying to build a NASCAR Diorama with two cars. I either want to do a classic battle between two cars, or a possible accident scene on the track. Does anybody have suggestions for reference material?

Thank You

You might want to try to find a book called “The Encyclopedia of Stock Car Racing” by Frank Moriarty. The copyright is 1998 so you might have to dig a little to find it. It’s got hundreds of black & white & colour photos. It was distributed by Metrobooks. Their website is www.metrobooks.com. Good luck & keep us posted!

Depending on how “classic” you want to get. The weekly publication “Nascar Winston Cup Scene” usually has good photos of the best action of the week. And sometimes some classic scenes too. It’s easier to find.

I am (was) in the process of a NASCAR dio myself.
Restrictor Plate Racing was the working title with Bill Elliott and Dale Earnhardt “flying” along the wall at Talledega. I even had Kyle Petty in the mix.
I found the idea on the cover of RACER magazine, which I had planned to put near the dio.
I realized though I needed Drivers for the cars! (Duh), I’m not sure I want to shell out $$$ for the new kits just for the drivers.

Why not make a diorama of one of NASCAR’s most classic moments, the fight on the infield after the 1979 Daytona 500. The fight was between Cale Yarborough and Bobby Allison and then Donnie Allison jumped in to help his brother. This was the first televised NASCAR race and cemented the redneck, tobacco chewing image (which NASCAR has tried hard to get rid of) into the minds of many Americans. The fight took place right next to their cars on the “grass” of the infield. I could be an exciting action diorama.

check out “Chimneyville” products. They make Resin figures,
and I know they have a NASCAR seated figure.

Thanks, I’ll give them a look.
I do have one figure. . . it looks smaller than actual 1/24 scale so I was going to use him for Kyle Petty.

Why not make a diorama of that awsome finish at Darlington between Curt Busch and Ricky Craven? Now that was one exiting finish!!!

Make sure to post pictures when your done…sounds like a good piece!!

there are a lot of nascar videos with wrecks in them, with the pause buttton and a note book you can lay out anything you see or use bits and pieces from a few wrecks in your dio. sounds like a lot of fun and the research is half the fun.
