Napalm Bombs For Korean War Corsairs or Any Plane!

Do napalm bombs fall under the non politically correct category? I can’t find them in any kit. My Father was in the Marine Corps and fought in Korea. I have connected with his buddy who was in the same fire team. They both have told me about their love for the Skyraider and Corsair due to the air support received from them. I’m wanting to build one of each in 1/32 scale in their honor. Does anyone know where to obtain aftermarket napalm canisters for these kits? Bill said he never recalled Skyraiders dropping napalm but my guess is they did, at least at times. Thanks for any forthcoming information.

True Details did a set of Korean War area napalm bombs.

I found them on e-bay in the UK.

So you should be able to get hold of them.

Can’t comment as to political correctness, but True Details used to do several versions. ‘Korean War’ version was the modified WW2 75-gal. drop tank for the 1/32 F-80 [also used by Corsairs], #TD32505.

They also did a 1/48 BLU-32 500 lb. napalm bomb [used by Skyraiders], #48528. (Also the BLU-10 250 lb. version, #48527.)

With Squadron’s current supply situation, I have no idea whether they’re still available. You could hunt on the usual auction sites and Amazon.

For Corsairs, it would be a ridiculously simple conversion from a pair of 75 gal. tanks and some scratch-built grenade detonators. Photos of the real thing should be available online.

Cheers

[God bless you, Bish, you beat me by about twenty seconds. [:D]]

During Korea (and WWII), napalm was usually just put into standard drop tanks, and a projecting fuse assembly put into the fuel filler hole instead of the standard cap. Sometimes the tanks were painted in a different color, sometimes they were not. You can easily make your own from drop tanks in many kits.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the answers.

Hee are the ignitors developed for regular napalm use:
