Napalm blu-27 load

We’re the blu-27’s mounted to the ters on the F-4 Phantoms? I’m building a C model and don’t have any pics of napalm load outs.

I’m not sure about the Air Force, but the Marines frequently carried two napalm canisters on TERS mounted on the inboard pylons. There is a photo of a VMFA-115 bird loaded that way on pg. 63 of the Osprey book on Marine Corps F-4 Phantom units.

Hope this helps,

Tom

there were many popular Napalm cans that you will see in photos from the Vietnam time period

the BLU-27 is the one you get in Hasegawa weapons sets in 1/72 and 1/48 scales, those were carried in pairs on the TERs on F-4C, with Mk-82 Snakeye 500# on a MER on the centerline (“Snake and Nape”)

the USMC Nape were MK-77, those are the blunter ended canisters (there were 5 different MOD numbers)

F-8 and A-1 also carried MK-79 from aboard ship early in the conflict, those looked somewhat like skinny, sharper A-1 drop tanks

other shapes are the BLU-1, and the 250 # and 500 #, which I can’t remember the designation right now,and an older Napalm shaped the same as the Monogram 1/72 AD-5 kit has on the inner wing pylons
