Just picked this up last night, the Hasegawa 1:48. Quick questions. I have printed 3 kit reviews from the internet but my question is what exactly is a Nakajima “interior”? Is it that metallic green? Someone please help.
Also, I assume it is silver underside and green top, I want accuracy in terms of it coming off the carrier at Pearl Harbor.
Finally, why does the kit list Pearl Harbor as Dec. 8, 1941? Anyone who has built this, please chime in. It looks like a great build.
The Nakajima cockpit color is a light yellow-green. This (dusty) cockpit was painted with the OOP Aeromaster acrylic. This color is available now from White Ensign Models. It is enamel.
I am not sure of the underside color used at the time of Pearl Harbor.
As for the date, there is a simple explanation. Hasegawa is a Japanese manufacturer, and Japan is over the International Date Line. Dec. 7th in Hawaii was Dec. 8th in Japan.
Don’t you just love Hasegawa’s color references? Paint the interior “cockpit color” and the propellor “propellor color”. Oh well, they do make some nice kits and the Kate is one of their better ones. I agree with Pixilater on the interior color. I approximate this mixing 2 parts Model Master British Green with 1 part deep yellow. Close enough for me. For the underside my references show IJN light gray rather than bare metal for Pearl Harbor Kates, but as always, try and find specific references for the AC you want to depict.
