Mystery Battleship hull(Which kit?)

Hi I’m not trying to trade here so I hope this question is ok

I am listing this model battleship hull on a well known auction site but have not got a clue what ship or even what scale it is. It was included in a bulk purchase from a house clearance so I cannot ask the seller. The hull was motorised with the view of making it ‘seaworthy’ so to speak so thought a buyer might be interested in a project together with another project.
Here photographed with an Airfix Ark Royal carrier 1/600 scale

Initially, I was going to say the classic Revell USS Missouri but that curvature of the bow throws me off.

Thanks Tom, my thought was one of those Tamiya Japanese Battle ships such as Yamoto or Musashi though the bow gun turret mounting looks different. The Bulbous bow may have been removed as this project was meant to be powered and may have effected the movement through water?

it is Japanese & i’m leaning to be a heavy cruiser as no picture showing the superstructure & main gun turrets shown. if have that & post a picture of it on the hull then will make it easier to id what type, class & maybe even name.

Thanks, that would be useful but the pieces shown are all I have unfortunately.

what is the length of that model as once possible scale(s) figured out, it might be possible to find the make & name of the model.

Length is 20 inches or 51cm added a couple more pics for details. Hope that helps. :slightly_smiling_face:

is there any printing on the inside bottom of the red part of the hull as that usually says who made it?

Hard to tell if the twin screw configuration is correct, but if so, a destroyer maybe in 1/200 scale? At 20 inches that would scale out to 333 feet, which sounds about right. Nichimo made a bunch of 1/200 IJN destroyers, so maybe it is one of those? The look of the propulsion system points to a pretty old kit, and the Nichimo ships date back to the 1970s.

Of course, this is coming from a Gundam builder who just remembers those kits sitting on the upper shelves of Pete’s Modelcraft back in the day.

I cant see anything written inside or on the base, but the motor may be original as there is a battery box for 4 AA size batteries. Motorization was once a hallmark of early Japanese kits I think.

This appears to me more of a battleship or cruiser than a destroyer, but thanks for the input as I had not heard on Nichimo before.

RealG, is not a destroyer or light cruiser as the model is to wide & has hull bulges like torpedo bulges that heavy cruisers & battleships used.
is not a battleship in that all the Japanese battleships except for the Yamato class had hull mounted gun casements not present on the model which makes it a heavy cruiser.

I had a similar thought, IJN heavy cruiser, with the barbettes for a second or even a third forward turret missing where that part of the forecastle or main deck is missing. The motor also makes me think of a kit from a Japanese maker, like Tamiya, Hasegawa, Aoshima, or someone similar.

My IJN ship expert tells me that likely candidates are 1/350 Takao or Myoko heavy cruiser. He says the bow shape hints that it is an IJN warship.

i do not think it is a Myoko, Furutaka or Takao class heavy cruiser due to lack of sponson supports on the hull not on the model but was on the real ships. so is either a Mogami or Tone class heavy cruiser but am leaning to the Tone class.
