My wife (Andrea) has always been supportive of my hobby, and she’s always offered critiques and praise on my builds. And now she’s building! [:D]
This is the B-17G in 1/48; she was gonna build it as “Little Miss Mischief” (the half-and-half B-17G) but we decided that it might be better to start with OD over neutral gray instead of NMF for her first build.
I’ve bought her her own hobby knife, and tweezers & sprue nips are soon to follow. She knows how much this stuff costs…she’s bought me several in the past, and we went into the LHS the other day and sat on the floor looking at kits I want to do in the future.
The B-17’s looking good! My wife has half a dozen hobbies right now, but eventually wants to do sailing ships. I’ve talked her into starting on a 1/72 PT boat then moving up to the bigger kits.
It feels good to be able to show her a kit I am building and get praise (and sometimes constructive criticism like “That thingy is hanging too far to the right [;)]” She’s slowly learning the lingo though… I think she’s even more excited about learning to airbrush this summer!
It feels good to have something like this to share an interest in!
My wife just barely tolerates this hobby of ours. It’s annoying, but I try not to let it cut into our time together. That’s great that your wife is getting interested in it.
p.s. that’s her second model!!! very nice work…it kind of makes me feel inadequate hahaha…[:p]
Her “first” was the B-17F “Superman” that we built for my dad’s birthday. I did all the construction and she did all the painting. She’d never used an airbrush before, and it came out better than anything I’ve done to date.
My missus has built a Revellogram 1/48 Wildcat & Academy 1/48 AVG P-40. Her unbuilt stash includes Revellogram’s Huey gunship, Fokker Dr.1 & P-51 Big Beautiful Doll. Now I have to keep her from going into hobby shops[:D]
You are truely one lucky hombre. My wife is happy that I am not in the bars and out with the guys, but at the same time she still sez I don’t spend enough time with her. Can’t win.
Oh women are like that. It’s lose lose[B)] Her B-17 looks much better than my attempt. I think my interior was chromate green. But it looks good. You truly are the luckiest modeler alive!
I have a great lady for my wife. She goes to all the contests with me and buys me more than I actually expect. I caught here looking through my FSM the other night so I promised her to check out her National Geographic real soon.
knight667;
tell her to keep it up, pretty soon she’ll be giving PIXILATER & SWANNY a run for their money, and maybe she’ll have her own website to help women to get involved in this hobby too
Way to Go!! My wife is into builds now too, as is my 14 yr old. We now have family group builds. The only problem is who gets the air brush first, we only have one.
Thanks for all the support, guys! I told her last night that she was reaching “legend” status here on the boards and she laughed. [:D] She’s looking forward to completing this one by herself, and with the start she’s made, I’m sure it’ll far surpass my best efforts.
I’ll update again tomorrow, as we didn’t get to do anything last night (had chores to do) but we’ll be back in the workshop (garage) tonight.
