Looking for opinions, i have a rough placement. The jery cans are scattered for now, i have sand from AK on order and some grass.
Good start! I like the general vibe.
I’d suggest moving the larger vehicle back a bit so the front doesn’t hang off the base. Also, there is quite the empty space at the front, and I’d try and move the bike there.
The problem moving the bike is, he’s talking to the guy in the car. Thank you for the information and advice
I see that now. Perhaps switch the position of the two vehicles and put the bike in a more central position, so both guys on the turrets can look like they’re waiting for direction from the guy on the bike.
It’s really well done thus far.
This sounds like a good idea. I like what you’ve done so far and am looking forward to watching what you’ll be doing with this Jeff. I’m looking at building a diorama/ scene in the near future and am sure I’ll be having some of the same placement issues that you are having.
I wish you a ot of luck. These people build dioramas like there easy. Its got to be interesting on how mine is going to turn out. I have a lot on of wethering to do i’m waiting for my stuff to arrive.
Will be watching this one Jeff.
I’ll be watching also, this is all new to me. I’m willing to try something new, I never rig ships before. I tried that and found it to be fairly easy, now, i rigg all my ships. I’m hoping that this will go easy. All i can do is try.
Looking forward to seeing where this one goes! A desert base was a great choice for your first, because it’s very forgiving whether you choose to be more subtle or more adventurous with your surface details.
Others have commented on the placement, but a couple of things worth considering when your extra bits come in:
- Consider how the vehicles got into that position. Is it a well-worn track or are they pulling up at an improvised supply point? Your texturing says a lot about the surface, particularly if you can layer your “undisturbed” areas a bit thicker and brush larger particles away from the path of travel.
- Wheel impressions won’t be quite as stark as driving over fresh mud but they’ll still be there
- Deserts are generally pretty lifeless, but a simple tuft of sunbleached grass will soften the scene and remind us that nature still finds a way to hold on
- Have a look at archival photos, or even modern photos if you know the region you want to replicate. This will provide some guidance on surface texture.
I’m also seeing folks having a lot of success with using AI to set their models in a realistic looking background. You could perhaps upload a photo of your general arrangement to ChatGPT or Obrazk and ask it to complete the layout based on certain parameters, which might provide some inspiration!
Thank you for the information, i will take all your suggestions in my mind. I still not sure how this is going to turn out, very nervous on attempting a diorama.
