I just finished the CF-5 shown below. Thought I’d share with everyone. It’s not intended to be too accurate, just a bit of a practice kit to build up some skills. The kit is the 1/72 Hasegawa T-38 Talon, and I originally intended to just build it oob as a T-38. However, on doing a bit of research on the kit, I found out that it seems to be more of an F-5 than a T-38, so I went in that direction (I think there’s a few non-F-5ish features on the kit, but I’m playing dumb.). A fellow club member was kind enough to give me a few decals to dress it up a bit in an agressor scheme.
My main ‘lesson’ in building this kit was scribing. I really wanted to try some re-scribing and this was the unfortunate guinea pig. Most of the lines are reasonably close to where they should be, but I took a few liberties making panels and other items just to get some practice. The gear wells and details were quite poor and therefore the ‘in-flight’ pose. The cockpit was pretty much non-existent, so I darkened up the canopy to hide it a bit. Perhaps not too authentic, but it gave me another thing to add to the ‘lesson’ list.
Excellent stuff ! interesting subject and camo scheme.
I too could use a lesson in rescribing.
The photgraphy is attractive and so is the wheels up pose.
fantastic piece of work.
Thanks guys. It was a good education if nothing. It was also kinda fun just spraying away at the camo colors. I kinda like it. First time posing anything ‘in-flight’ so the stand was a bit challenging to figure out, but it’ll do.
Hey Chris, the annual Bridge-Con contest is coming up in May (either the 2nd or the 9th) and then the Calgary RMMC contest is the weekend after. There’s also the Deifenbaker show on right now (until Feb 22nd I think), not a contest, but you’d likely enjoy the display. If you haven’t gone to it, I’d highly recommend it!
Send me an email if your interested in more details.
I got the F-5 at my LHS. Its the Hasegawa 1/72 T-38 kit. Got it a few years ago and I really can’t remember what the cost was but I’d say it was less than $15.00.
