Got to work on my 'stang today. Looks like it may be awhile before this baby is done. Thats ok, this is were you learn your trade. Right?! Check out the canyons in the wing roots
Oh by the way jwb can I borrow some sanding sticks? I think Tampa is all out!
Let me ask you this. Did you have to cut out the wings so you could see the inside or did the kit come like that ? And if you did cut them out please tell me “HOW” you did it so well. I am looking to have my F4U-1A Corsair look like that.
Hehehe… that looks familiar… did a P-51, Spit Mk II and a P-40B… same thing. Still- nothing that can’t be accounted for. Haven’t even finished my P-40B (or my AccuMinis P-51A) and I broke out the Revell Me-262 today and started on the office. We’ll see how it fits! Still- it’s very nicely detailed and should look great.
I don’t use sanding sticks at the wing roots… can’t get them to fit. I got several grades of papers, and I wrap a piece around a popsicle stick or two (or anything else that might fit where you work). Same shape as a sanding stick, but you can turn it on its side and really get in there to sand those puppies down.
The office and the gun bays look really good- keep us updated!
Use some sheet styrene to fill in the wingroot gaps, more controllable than putty and closer to the same hardness. I wrap sandpaper around wooden dowels to sand in places like wingroots too. sometimes paintbrush handles are the right size to fit also. warp the sandpaper around the dowel and twist it next to the wing root. It takes some time but keeps you from sanding a trench in there by moving side to side. Or fore and aft that is.
I had the same wing root problems with my P-51 and used styrene strips and puddy to close the gap. The A-1 Skyraider posed the same problem but I made the fuselage come to the wing roots. Put in a piece of sprue as a “spreader” bar to widen the fuselage and close the gaps.
Getting alittle more done on the Revell 'stang. Learning still with every model I do.
This is my first try at an alluminum finish. What do ya think. Tell me the truth. I filled those canyons in the wingroots with everything I could get my hands on. What’s that honey…where’s the dog?..ahh I dunno.
By the way Melgyver I thought of doing the samething. My other mustang will have the spreader treatment!
Ya it’s the picture. The aluminum finish is brighter and glossier than in the pic. I need top go back to FSM and look up that article on taking better pics. I just finished puting the olive drab and the black on. Tomorrow I will start on the decals. I keep telling myself …patience, patience, patience. Thanks for the comment.
Well it’s coming along. I spent most of the morning applying the the decals that you see in the pics. It’s far from finished but I had to call it quits after doing the decals. Can’t get in a hurry now. I applied the harder ones first just to get them off my mind. I also took alittle more time setting up these pic. I wanted to show the sheen on the aluminum finish that you didn’t see in that last pic.[yuck] So I hope these are more pleasing than that other pic.[yuck] So please tell me the truth. I learn from criticism. So let me have it.!
That checker decal is a nightmare isn’t it?! Looks like they’re all going on ok. That natural look on the Al is nice and even, I feel the mirror finish is unrealistic. Yours seems pretty good. Are you going to do anything with the panel line? Dry brushing?
Looking great! That checkerboard decal kicked my butt last year when I had a failed attempt at getting back into modeling. It still sits unfinished. You did a great job on that.
Brian…Thanks, I will try alittle weathering. This is my first Al job so I’m alittle nervous about it. I know it will make the model stand out more but… maybe later.
Jon… I’m glad you chimed in. I always appreciate and value your comments ( your my hero ).
Mel… Yes these are kit decals! Can you believe it, they are awsome. Good ol’ Revell
wing_nut…Always value your comments. You’re one of the best. Thanks. [bow]
I’m really looking forward to finishing this one. I will be posting the finished product in a couple of days.
