This is the first time I have ever participated on a modeling forum. Now in the past I’ve been a bit of an ecclectic modeler, building anything that tweaked my interest. But I’ve decided to build a few that have greatly iterested me from my youth. some of these things I want to build were unavailable to me when I was a kid, and I would like to rectify that now. My passion is for certain articles/equipment, and certain images from history. Ranging from a simple M-48 tank to fully complemented aircraft carriers. I even at one time had the idea of building Kido Butai at the first decision point, where the tankers turned back. but alas, they didn’t have the tanker kits needed to accomplish the ideal. But I assembled kits as I could find them eventually having all but said tankers and one certain heavy cruiser. (the tankers are available today and the cruiser has been reissued at least twice)
Of course it never came to fruition, even at 1/700 scale it was a large, no huge proposition. The wife finally convinced me that there would be no place to complete it much less display it. (Kido Butai in 1/700 scale taking up about 12x5 feet of space from lead submarine to trailing tankers)
Eventually I sold them all off. But my love for naval spots in history still exists, as does my love of equipment.
But I digress,
Sice I re-starting my modeling career, I need to start with something simple. and I believe I’m going to start with the Revell H-13H, nominally known as the “Mash” H-13, although we all know it was never a “H” model that served so gallantly.
The “H” model had pretty much quiet career serving in the artillery branch during the Vietnam conflict with a few being some of the first armed helocopters used in actual combat. My build will be of one of those artillery spotter/scout aircraft which is probably the only version the Revell kit is qualified for OOB.
Should be a straightforward build as there really will be nothing to add except for some minor details that were obvious to anyone seeing one sitting on the ground. Like the small antennaes that sit on both sides of the tail boom and wiring and other little stuff that would easily be seen…
Ten years ago would be an easy model for me to complete.
One thing to note, I’m not much of a rust bucket creator, so my models have a bit of the shiny polished look of new equipment. I build for the example not the depiction so to speak and I know most military model builders are the opposite, so please bear with me on that side of the ideal. Not that I don’t think of such as great modeling cause what most of you do is fantastic in your vision and skills, but that much realism is not what I’m aming for. Like if I ever get to my Trumpter USS Hornet build, which with 16 B-25C’s on the deck, requires a point in time I will be looking to do the spot in time thing. but my Early Idea/Korean Tamiya M-48 with it’s remote control will be pretty much rolling out the factory door so to speak.
But it’s all good, the whole point is to have fun isn’t it?
