Well, having read the magazine for years and seeing all those benches and now joining my first ever forum (be gentle), I wanted to share my little piece of heaven.
As you can see, I LOVE the modules from HobbyZone in Poland. They are all lasercut (assembly required), fit perfectly together and the drawers can be adjusted on the inside to fit what you need. The paint modules are great (I did not get the individual slotted ones (I have the full shelf) and the paint racks are amazing (holds 110 bottles of Vallejo paints in each rack). My warning here is the paper towel dispenser, it’s European sized, so I converted mine to a tape holding area. There is an American distributor, though he stopped shipping to Canada.
Yes I have 7 models on the go and yes this is a small depiction of my stash…
THis is my self-made spray booth, pre LED era. I added the LED lights last year and the turntable (meant for a kitchen table) I bought at a garage sale.
The green tape is there to create a better seal with the door as I found dust was being sucked in from the pressure the fans generate.
The tablet is always closed by to paint-conversions, reference material and yes, Soptify!
Airbrushes are located of the right side of the booth and my compressors are on a rubber mat on the floor. Welding station on the right of the booth for my PE parts (thank you Plasmo). On the shelf on top of the booth, I built a holder for the Styrene Rods and tubes to keep the organized.
The left side is my son’s bench, by comparison, with his Christmas gift (look familiar??) still on his chair!
Took a while of planning and using the HobbyZone design tools to get it the way I like. The width of the desk I use is the width of the room, so I needed to maximize what little space I have…
I’m jealous of all the space you have. Need to wait until the son moves out to take over the room we use for modelling.
As for the HZ modules this is the final expansions I made. The original set up was smaller and once I worked with it, it grew to what it is. The paint racks and bases were last to be added.
Are you treating your tables or leaving them bare? I ask because of those notorious spills and drops.
Hello Nomads,
I will be leaving them bare… for that exact reason. I don’t mind if something is accidentally spilled on them. It’s a workbench
I’ve also thought about satin clear sealant.
Thanks. I’ve been terribly busy at work and can’t wait to get back to it. I go to the room when I get home and sniffle as I miss working on my collection.
Love it. My modeling bench is about like the section to the left. After studying yours, I am going to measure the area around my bench to see if I can ad an L-shaped extension like yours. You have more than twice as much storage.
If you’re planning on a modular system, take your time, measure your area TWICE, think about what you want your modular system to do for you (storage, ease of equipment accessibility, tidy work area) and don’t I repeat, don’t buy everything at once.
I bought the lower sections and the top Tamiya paint shelves first, then worked in my area to see what I used, what I liked and what different modules I needed, then I bought the second level and put the Tamiya paint racks on top of those. From there, I bought a number of “more versatile” modules I used more often and all the Paint racks that hold my Vallejo paints.
