stram8777- The 2 B-29 models are actually getting the same treatment as the LBG becasue I am doing a China Lake abandond aircraft diorama with four of them and I should be posting pics soon
my wife said there goes the home life. [:D]
Great haul!!!
I’m glad for you.
this to me is what the hobby is all about.
joe
wow, what a story. Congratulations, I think I’ll go to more modelling shows!
Talk about right place at the right time??
Are you really expected to build them all? Was that the terms of the give a way?
As said by others, there are some real gems in there, speaking as one Monogram modeler to another![:)]
I recently did inventory myself, yeah I now have right at 230 unbuilt kits now (gulp)
nicodemus-I am not expected to build all of them as some have some horrible warpage to them and others are only good for parts, Like the testors P-51D and P-47D because they are so bad. And I agree with you on the gems Those lancasters alone are worth 200$ together new, and the Visible B-17G I have seen that go for 300$ on Ebay for a single kit, and the Revell B-17F I am just glad to have such a hard kit to find.
FOUR B-29s in 1/48 scale in ONE diorama??? What are you using for a base? A 4 X 8 sheet of plywood? If that project turns out even half as well as your LBG, you will have a very, very impressive dio. [alien]
Wow, Congrats!! Soon your casa will look like the Consolidated Dallas-Fort Worth plant during WWII LOL !!
yardbird78- That right 4 1/48 B-29 superfortresses on one base. I figure the rough dimensions of the diorama are gong to be 74" wide by 52 long, so that about 6 feet wide by 4 feet long . The diorama will be two large halfs that are put together to form the base, each aircraft will be detachable for easy moving of the base. And I highly doubt there is going to be a big enough display area for this thing when it gets done latter this year, one in my house and two at the competitions I plan to bring it too.
lodni_k-I think your right, my work bench is already starting to look like that with my suprerfortress project and the couple of models I have been fiddling around with from my stash.[:D][:D]
Hey Vintage,
That build sounds interesting. I can’t wait to see the pics. Any ideas on the P-61? I think that would be incredible to see as an abandoned plane as well. Although my skills pale in comparison to yours I would be happy to form a mini gropup build and build mine along with yours. Something of a one-sided competition though. LOL
stram8777- I think that a mini group build would be an excelant idea, I am happy to see another modeler thats not afraid to cut, gut, and trash there model. Too answere your question on the P-61 I have thought about doing that but it was never really brought to my atention untill you posted that here. Now about it being abandoned is this what you had in mind http://www.pacificwrecks.com/restore/maam/p61crash.jpg, or thishttp://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.maam.org/images/p61crash.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.maam.org/p61/p61rest1.html&h=200&w=343&sz=37&tbnid=4vjST6qVnaAJ:&tbnh=67&tbnw=114&start=9&prev=/images%3Fq%3DP-61%2Bcrash%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3 Now what could we call the build and could others join.
Hey vintage, I didn’t really have a historical idea in mind for the p-61, I mean based on photos of actual wrecked planes, other than just some basic ideas. But hey the pics I saw on the pacific wreck site would be incredible to recreate. I have never built something like a wrecked airplane before but I will buy a p-61 special just for this build. I will need lots of help though I promise that much.
As far a group build goes heck I say the more the merrier. It could be called something along the lines of abandoned aircraft group build or wrecked aircraft group build. It could even be done as a dedication to the lost airmen as well. But those are just my thoughts. IIRC I don’t think a group build like this has ever been done. It could be really great.
On a side thought if the group build would occur I maybe we shouldn’t limit it to just aircraft. I could think of a lot of potential armor builds as well. Hey the more I think about this the more I get inspired.
I think that there is some reall potential for this build, I also love the idea of incoporating the armor section into this becasue they are much more likely to build bombed out and abandoned tanks that an aircraft person with an aircraft, it would also get more members in. Als I think that you are right in saying a build like this has not been done before. I think that it might be hard to get aircraft modelers to rip apart there models, since it has now become almost a rule that an aircraft model needs to be perfectly new looking.
Here are some names for the build
Forlorne and forgotten
forgotten heros
nothing but a memory
left behind
Now as for subject on my part I can incorporate the B-29 project and a C-47 project that I just started yesterday. And as you quoted (I will need lots of help though) I can help you with the techniques to make your P-61 everything you want it to be, also I might join you in the P-61 a little latter as I have two stashed away that I have been itching to build.
Cant wiat to start this thing up, we are pionering a new way of building models.
Vintage Aircraft
Congrats on the windfall profit. However, after looking at the gaps in my Monogram He111, I’m just wondering if your benefactor has stock in a putty company?
Enjoy
I like your ideas of group build names. I thi9nk we should put out some feelers on all forums. This in my mind should be a finescalemodeler forum wide group build. In the sense of getting everyone incorporated. Think of the autos and spacecraft. Lets put out some feelers and see who would join up. If we could get a couple people from each section it would be great. Also I think this would be a great opportunity for people from each section that don’t normally interact to chat and bring new perspectives and ideas to each. Get what I am saying? I don’t think the current philosophies of aircraft building will be a stumbling block. Most everybody has a kit in their stash they don’t expect much from. I have a couple from a company that I REALLY hate. When should we get this going? Do you think a start date in a month or so is to close?
Hey I am ready to start today if you want. I also like the idea of incorporating the enrite website into this should be really cool. So I think that the best name for it though would probably be different for every forum, so the name suits the subject better.
Ok so how about this:
First Ever All Inclusive Fine Scale Modeler "Gone But Not Forgotten " Group Build
I think that has the appropriate ring to it. LOL So since I have never started a group build before hopw do we go about doing this?
Well since this is going to be such a large group build we are both going to have to be moderators of one build. How this will work is we post up a notice in each forum asking people to join with a certain amount that have to join in order to make it work for there section. Then if we get the needed amount of people we set up a post for the group build in the group build forum, we have an opening page explaining the requirements of the build and then let the people start posting on there work, we monitor it and respond to it. Now I am having some second thoughts about this being an all inclusive build becasue the subject is really gearded to aircraft and armor, there the ones that fit the subject best. Now I do have an idea for an all inclusive build that fits every subject very well .I do need people to help me out on if you would like to help me out with after this ones dies down ( Ill explain to you what it is in my next post)
I personally would like to have aircraft
And you could have Armor
Hows this sound?[tdn][tup]
Nice! I wonder why somebody would buy all those and not build them?
Well he intended too but never got around to doing it.
