My Heng Long 1/16 RC Panzer III

Hi Guys

I have been working on my 1/16 RC Panzer III.

That’s really cool. Does it run or are you still working on that? Some video would be cool.

One thing, the fire extinguisher shouldn’t be red. They should be the same color as the rest of the tank.

Erik

Yep It runs, Heng Long makes cheap RC tanks but with some mods they can be reliable running tanks, I have 12 of them. I dont have a way to capture video but there are all kinds of vids on youtube and such that show them. Thanks for the tip on the extinguisher [tup]

Cool. I just did a quick search for them online. They look pretty cool. Were do you get yours?

Erik

I will drop you a PM ( I forget if you can post links to other sites here[:)] )

Jeremy

I don’t get it Jeremy–which tank is yours?

Did you build this, same as a model, from the ground up? Or is it a pre-built type of thing?

there all mine, 3 pics taken in the kitchen and 1 on the workbench. The model is pre built. But the electronics need some work to make them run reliable.

I received the exact same one from my dad last Christmas. I think it is really cool. Makes the dog go nuts, and I can even ambush the cats from a hidding position under the chairs [:D] The headlights lights up when you move, so it just surprize the heck out of them.

I like what you did to yours, mine look so bare in comparison, I’ll have to give it a wash and dust it.

Model: something to be copied, - model, adj. reproducing, esp on a smaller scale. v.i. to practise modelling.

Doog, you and I conversed on this subject after one appeared in the readers gallery of a recent edition of FSM.

I said it before and I’ll say it again - this is not modelling.

While I was blown away by Bob Steinbrunn’s re-build of a diecast Dodge WC-57 in the September issue, he added more than 300 parts to the original purchase- I dont see anything like that here.

I would be prouder of one of my very average builds, than of buying a RC vehicle and giving it a few tweaks. Gee, just think of all the ejector marks, pin holes, seams and flash you dont have to worry about… Not to mention glue runs, parts that dont fit first time, etc etc.

Arent there RC sites out there ? Why post in a modellers forum ?

Nothing personal, but I think you’ve got cojones the size of Texas, posting this here.

I got a 1/25 scale RC T-72M1 by VsTank recently, and I have to say it’s pretty cool to chase my cats with! The bad thing is that I need to build a BREM-1 ARV to recover it when it gets stuck in my backyard… I’m going to disassemble some of the detail parts and remove seams and stuff, then repaint it, it seems to run pretty good. It’s not the same as assembling the Tamiya T-72, but I consider the detailing part of the hobby. Making our models/replicas realistic is the goal, right? Though this isn’t exactly a forum for RC models, it’s nice to see that you’re proud enough of what you’ve done to post it here for everyone to see, regardless of some who may not appreciate it. Thanks for the post!

I’m afraid I disagree with you, you’ve taken a very elitist attitude. If he’s into his RC stuff, converts here and there alters the paint jobs so what, it’s a hobby for everyone, I don’t think for one minute he was claiming he built it himself. Personally speaking for myself, my enjoyment is in the creativity of the painting, probably coming from when I was a kid drawing everything. I don’t really get too much excitment detailing with bits of styrene or bending bits if wire, sanding and removing pinmarks but sometimes they’re a necessary chore something to be endured and not a right of passage which you seem to allude to here.

Just my opinion [;)]

cojones the size of Texas, what???

I thought I would just show what I have done, I wont bother next time.[:(]

First time I have posted a pic of work that I did, now I know why I dont and wont in the future.

Thanks for the kind words though guys, I appreciate it [:)]

JerB

Don’t be discouraged by the words of some people here. I’m not speaking for them (as I don’t personally know any of them), but I don’t think that any real harm was meant by them, as they are just posting opinions. R/C stuff may not be their particular cup of tea. In the future, if you decide to post another picture, feel free because this IS a free country…right? I will examine any work done by anyone, and lend helpful advice if I can, as will most others. If you have questions about external details, or paint colors, camo, weathering, etc. don’t be afraid to put it out there. Good Luck!

Stick around dude.I personally would like to see all of the RC kits you mentioned that you have.I too have a dog I can chase.Alas,no cat to ambush.

I went and looked at the Heng Long tanks, and JerB’s looks a lot better, so I’d call that modelling, since it involves assembly, AND dis-assembly, painting, parts cleanup, research, etc. I bought a Franklin Mint Abrams and am doing the same thing, not so that I can take credit for building a model of a 24th scale Abrams, but to have it on the shelf…and it’s fun.

Thanks guys for the kind words guys, It means alot[:)]

it looks cool, i’ve been thinking about doing this for a while.[tup]

I saw a 21st Century Toys M48 displayed in a hobby shop in KC a while ago that had been re-done, looked great. Seems like it’s all part of the same hobby to me.

I’ve got the 1/16th T-34/85 which runs pretty good. I use it to chase the cat. He really dislikes the thing, espcially the really cheesy cannon sound when it fires.

My local hobby shop has the forces of valor 1/16 diecast sherman, great looking model but at $649 Canadian, I’ll pass[:P]
