This is my first armor model in over 35 years. Tamiya’s PzII, straight from the box. Tamiya Desert Yellow, preshaded with tamiya Dk.Brown. I weathered it with oils and pastels. I used what I believe is the “cloud method?” of painting.
I blame you guys.
These are all the pics for now as my PC is still giving me fits…
The old PzII is one of the staples - it’s been said that you can’t consider yourself an armour modeller unless you’ve built one of these… [8D]
I like the subtle weathering, worn, but not worn out. It looks almost just like the one I did a while back (not surprising - same kit, OOB, similar colour scheme, same markings)
I like it. I mean sure it is an old kit and pales to the new dragon kits but if you haven’t built a tank in 35 years (wow) It’s new ! Straight out the box it looks great! The paint and decaling are well done. I think you should try a newer kit that has some more frills now that you have broke back into the Armor scene. Do you have anymore in the stash? Maybe (gasp) dare I say a USMC track?
I always get a kick outta looking how much the models have developed over the years. I figure my grand kids will be building injected plastic replicas that really run.
It is a fun enjoyable kit and you made it look just like a Tamiya catalog picture or better. Couple hints you may have done. Block the see through grills from the inside with black paper or painted plastic sheet. Looking at a hollow compartment isn’t good. Block the hatch with a figure or close it if there is no inside detail and if you drill out the end of the MG with a pin vise just enough to show a hole it will make it look a lot more like the real thing. Not much else I’d do to it. 35 years? Please don’t wait that long for another. I’m getting old you know.[(-D] [tup]
Nice work on a classic kit! A fine example you can build a good looking tank and not spend 100 bucks on it. What else is sitting in your stash? Welcome back.
sfcmac - Thanks for the tips I never thought of the vent. I actually did drill the mg muzzle, but chipped it. [:(!] I have the TC in the paint shop read to fill that gaping hole. As far as USMC armor:
1/144 scale. Nothing else need be said…
Mobius, Dan Mcmartin - Your kind words are appreciated. returning to the dark side has been a lengthy process.
Doog - I read and read and read your toots on weathering, painting, etc etc etc. Then I did it my way! Seriously, though everyone in this forum has contributed. Dragon’s PZIV is still lurking in the garage 10% built.
Disastermaster - Them’s quickkie shots just to post, gona do 'er outside for the best effect. In regards to the PC, well I believe a repair by Mr. Glock is in order, or if he can’t Mr. Colt.
Luftwoller - It’s been a fun journey, here’s one of my usual builds:
Tellis - OMG, I looked for AM tracks. 4x the cost of the kit $$$$$!!! I figured I’ll just use what I got. I do like the tracks in Dragons PZIV, see what happens when I get that far.
Big HHHHoooooo-Rah to you Agent G! I agree with you about the after market tracks and such. Why spend the $ to upgrade a new one when a New DML can be had with more detail cheaper? The way you presented it is just fantastic! I think they still sell for about $10-$12 and look at the nostalgic feelings you stirred in us!
Your other builds look sweet to. Now about that PZ IV Hmmm [:-,]
Nice build AgentG[tup][tup]. I like the weathering. You gave it the “somewhat used” look without going over the top to the “abandoned in the desert for 30 years” look. Ironically, I have the same kit under construction now and agree about not using aftermaket parts; they would sort fo defeat the point of building a cheap thirty-seven year old kit rather than upgrading to the newer Dragon. Also ironic is that I guess this was a very new, and dare I say, “state of the art” kit when you last built a model.
Your tank commander looks pretty good. Unless you have other plans for him, i.e. Pz IV, you should put him in the Pz II, which would really set it off nicely.
Very nice stuff. You are showing your talents in many areas. The weathering looks good…better in more light…I know its the BMNT look (before morning nautical twilight).
BTW your howie is great! I have done some resin kits myself and can relate…
Only thing I can recall about the 11th Marines (artillery) is they made a LOT of noise when I was trying to sleep.
The SGTMAJ says she can rectify any and all PC problems. She, being quite a bit younger than I, has the ahem, skills. However my old and dear friends, Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson, are also standing by to lend a hand if necessary.
Just a thought, build the same kit again but add all the after market parts. Photo etch, resin pieces, indy track, metal barrel, etc…You obviously have the kit build under control. Rebuilding with AM would allow you to work with the new technologies without fighting through a 1000 plus piece kit. Greg.
