Well, I entered two plane into my first contest, the Hobby Town National Model Contest. I got a 2nd and a 3rd place finish. 1st place gets emailed to Hobby Town for the national part of the contest. Maybe next time. Now, admittedly there weren’t many entries, but I got the ribbons and 10 bucks in Hobby Town gift cards for my effort. My 2nd place was my Tamiya 1/48 FAA Corsair anf my 3rd place was my Tamiya 1/48 P-51B Zircus Rosarius. 1st place was an awesome 1/32 Me 109. He has it on a nice base…could that have helped him to victory? Lesson learned. ~Chris
well congratulations. as someone who just entered and placed second in my first contest yesturday, i can say it feels great doesnt it. good job!! [tup]
Your planes look great, congratulations. I’ve been looking for twenty minutes now and I cant find that p51 kit, where can I find it? I just built a 1:72 Corsair as my first plane, its a cool aircraft. I like the detail on yours.
It is the Tamiya P-51B kit. The decals are Cutting Edge and I found them a while back on Flightdecs.ca in Canada. I did the Mustang, a P-47, Typhoon and have a Spitfire XI left to do.
Congtatulations Chris on a job well done…!![tup][tup]
Quick question on the Monogram P-51B… Is that the original molds and if so are they raised? Just curious because I see that Revell released a P-51B and the lines appear to be engraved… Then again the original could have been engraved… Ugh
Both of your builds are rock solid IMHO… I too bought the CUtting Edge decals that has the captured Stang on it as well…
Hey Mike, thanks. Crub, I just realized I mentioned it wrong in my last post, this is the Tamiya B. I did do the earlier version of this plane using the Monogram kit. An old raised panel line kit I found at a yard sale. This is a Tamiya and by far my favorite brand. Now to go correct my last post.
Your welcome…!! Ah with that being said, I think the release of Revell’s P-51B is the ICM kit… The ICM is pretty sharp looking all around for not being a Tamiya mold… $16 to boot!!
Again, congrats on the wins… The Corsair in FAA colours is begining to grow on me!!
Congrats. Both look good, if you’ve got some FAA decals left over come join us over at the FAA Group Build. In answer to your question about the base, it may have put him over the top. I helped judge at a local Hobby Town USA contest once and they gave me a handout listing things to judge based on a points system, a base being one of them. If you go to an IPMS contest, even though it’s on a base, that’s not supposed to count. Unless it’s in dioramas of course.
Thanks for the tip. I have a South Carolina Modelers Association contest this weekend, gonna give the Corsair another try along with my green Navy F-4G and the P-39 Air A Cutie I’m working on now. I’ll check out the FA GB, sound like fun.
