I’m new in this forum, and I wish to introduce myself in the scifi forum sharing with you some pictures of my latest work, a 150 mm version of the famous female fiction character.
First approaches (general volumes and shapes) were made using DAS as an experiment. But then I changed mymind and finished it with a “skin” of epoxy to get better detail and smoothness.
Hope you like it:
I’m trying to develop a cast copy of this figure, so I’ll upload new pictures when I get it painted.
GUille,
Welcome to the forum. Nice looking figure. You really captured her look and I love the pose. If you cast any extras, I may be interested.
What didn’t you like about DAS? I have some of this I have been meaning to experiment with and just haven’t had the time. A lot of sculptures like the Super Sculpey but you have to cook it. That is why I picked up the DAS.
DAS is a clay like material that air drys instead of being fired. Not exactly sure what the working time is on it. One advantage of Sculpey is that it remains workable until you fire it (in the oven). Then you can add more detail to it.
As soon as I get the first casted copy I’ll post it here (and then the painting job).
Is my intention to make extra copies of this model as part of a new project I’m involved in.
Phil:
About DAS (I think is paper/wood-fiber based) it’s exceptional for scenes, grounds and dios, but it has two conts (from my point of view) that make me prefer A+B epoxy type modeling putties.
The first drawback is that it shrinks when cured, producing sometimes cracks and fissures specially on folds.
The second is that you can get smaller and better details using epoxy putties, and this last one is also less fragile when cured.
On the other hand no cold-cast epoxy lasts more than 1 hour (or so) without curing and DAS can last “modelable” almost days if you keep it wheat or wrapped in plastic film.
After thinking a while the best molding quartering and making the necessary corrections, here are the first casted copies of my lady.
Support background wall would be also in resin, and hands would in metal.
Well as molds are already done, I think it would be worthwhile to use them [;)]
I’m quite concrened about painting. It’s a real challenge to make a good work just in tones of black [%-)]
Hello! And thanks!

1- First “lights” using black & Vallejo oily steel (10/1)
2- “Clearing” her face to give a pale aspect
3- Giving washes in dark purple
4- Face detail (I tried to give her an angry look)
