OK, so this isn’t a picture of an aircraft in progress, its actually the display base for the 1/48 Tomcat that I’m working on. Its a gift for a friend of mine. Anyway, apart from some tidying up, this is how the base will look.
So what do you guys think? If it passes for “OK” that will do, its the first time I’ve tried this sort of thing and because its for a good mate I want to make sure that it does’nt look daft. So let me know good or bad?
Thanks fella’s[tup] Its a relief to know that its OK!
Jerry,
I’m building a Hasegawa F-14A in 1/48. Its wearing Jolly Rogers (VF-84) markings. I have nearly finished now, hoping to complete the project before Friday as that is when my mate is coming to visit. He knows I’m building a Tomcat, he does’nt know about the display base. With a bit of luck, he’ll like it![:-^][:D]
Excellent work on the carrier deck. Your mate should be well pleased with your efforts. If he is not, then he is impossible to please. What kit did you use for the carrier deck or is that all scratch built?
Darren: I’ve really enjoyed this build of yours, including the carrier deck base. It really sparks the mind to come up with an idea for a base that somehow fits in as part of the environment. Top notch job all around.
many thanks! The base is plain MDF with a machined edge, done by a friend of mine. Everything else is done by me, so yes its basically stratch built. I will definately do another like this for myself when I build my own F-14.
Thanks for your kind words![tup] I am nearly done now, just waiting for the canopy parts to dry/be fitted and thats it. Just hope my mate likes it now[:o)] I’m looking forward to seeing what he will think of it.
