My 1/32 Round 2 Star Trek Galileo 7 build.

So let’s try this again… the Round 2 1/32 Galileo 7 .

I reserve the evenings for “me” Build time, so I worked on this.

The roof slides off so I can add lights…or an Interior kit from Polar Lights if they make it.

The lighted areas will be the rear engine and interior cabin.

I painted the model to match the color suggestions on the box and reference material.

The paint was Tamiya, I mixed them.

Even though the hatch is closed in the photo, the lower area swings down and the top is removable. It’s tacked in place right now until the decals fully cure.

The viewport “glasss” In not in place yet. I may display the model with the windows closed.

I couldn’t sleep last night so I made my own light kit.

The rear engine lights. The switch is hidden inside the model.

I made the model with the viewports closed for now as that’s how it was mostly seen in the episode Galileo 7. I felt it looked odd with nothing to see inside, Your Milage may vary.

It can easily be removed to install the glass at a later date.

My Nacelles will NOT light up…why? Because they didn’t in the series. I am well aware they were wired but I am a purist. I told you I was a boring builder!

It’s amazingly perfect!

Looks great!

Took a 15 minute break from the bench to get some decent, but boring, Pictures of my 1/32 Polar Lights Galileo build.

Many thanks to
Gary Kerr
in getting the color correct!!

Although it wasn’t exactly easy, the upper and lower hull colors HAD to be mixed then lightened a little for correct scale.
If you want it like the 22’ prop, you can’t get the colors from a rattle can.

The weather has been downcast and rainy, so I took some quick pictures with the sunlight.

Nice video!

I’ve always used Tamiya Insignia White for the top and Tamiya fine grey primer on the bottom. I guess I was wrong.

Can you share the paint mixing recipe?

Also did you put 1 LED in the impulse motor or 2?

Thanks

The formula is in the description of the video…But Here it is again! All Model Master paints!!

Upper Hull 75% #1730 Flat Gull Gray 25% #1726 Lt Sea Gray Lower Hull 70% #1794 Aggressor Gray 20% #1788 Euro 1 Gray 10% #1735 Wood Don’t forget to lighten the mixes slightly for scale(This is a model not the 22’ Prop!)

Now that the dull usual tabletop pictures/videos are out of the way…a little fun!!

Thanks! Thats what I need.

Those colors seem like they would be too dark, But I can’t argue with the results you got!

Your build looks spot on!

Those are mostly flat paints. Can I assume you gloss coated before decals? And then Semi matt coated to seal everything after?

Sorry if this was covered before.

Thanks very much.

Mark

I’m going to reveal my ignorance of TOS minutiae, but what are the shuttle nacelles supposed to be? Are they warp nacelles, since the impulse engine is apparently the big grille in the back of the hull? Or am I being like that kid in Galaxy Quest asking Tim Allen’s character about some discrepancy in the show?

I appreciate the paint mix data. The kit gives little or no info on this. Thanks!

You bet! Glad to have helped!

Another shot of the kit!

Looks like most of those colors are no longer available, but I can punt. Your photos are a big help.

Are the nacelles the same as the bottom hull, or are they a bit lighter, somewhere inbetween the upper hull and lower hull colors?

The whole lower hull…nacells included, are the same color!

Another great job!!! [ht]

Considering they look like warp nacelles I’d always assumed shuttles had some sort of limited low-warp capability but I think they are assumed to be sub-light only.

Sorry it took so long Real G,

That’s up for discussion.

An argument can be made that 2 “warp” engines (pods) are needed to go FTL.

Every FTL ship we see in TOS has 2 warp engines.

The shuttlecraft, by strong sugestion, has a limited warp capability.

This would indicate logically, that the 2 pods are warp engines.

But they are small and the black grill on the back is large, and it’s obviously some kind of drive.

In “The Galileo Seven” you see Spock Jettison the fuel and ignite it. The ignited fuel is shown coming from the pods. The comment is made that “they need that fuel to maintain orbit”. Impulse engines are use for orbit and sub light manuvering.

Confusing.

The Starfleet tech manual lists them as “booster pods” with the center engine listed as “main propulsion”.

The Tech manual is not completly accurate to the show.

So, after a long post the answer is maybe.
