MV-22 done

Hey all,

I usually build armor but decided to give an airplane (sort of) a try. The last time I did an airplane was 20 years ago. I actually built this one in it’s original release when I was 16.

I did the kit out of the box except for the nacelles. I modified them to be slightly rotated forward as if in transition. The stripes on the blades were masked and spray painted versus using the decals.

I know this model isn’t upto current Marine Corps specifications, but I just wanted to try an aircraft.

Thanks for looking and any comments are welcomed.

That’s one nice looking bird! Very nice, clean, smooth finish!

A nice bird indeed and I really like the finish, not overwethered like so many other models (just my preference) [tup]

What kit is this? it looks WAY cool! Excellent job!

Now that’s a clean build, she looks GREAT !

Thanks. It’s the old Italeri V-22 kit in 1/48th scale. It came out about 20 years ago, I think. Italeri “updated” somewhat but the decals and the cockpit are wrong.

Thanks. There is a subtle wash but my camera washed out the effect.

Another one we don’t see modelled often enough. Well done! [tup]

I recently had a chance to see two of these at an airshow, one of them was all folded up… strange lookin’ beasts.

Great work on the kit! I like the way you have the rotors tilted… looks good.

NEEDS…MORE…PICTURES!!!

…if you don’t mind please.

Well done in deed and I especially like the inflight deal!!

Flaps up,

Outstanding job! Looks just like one of the “trials” I got to ride in 1998. How/what did you do to create the base that is holding it up?

Thanks. The base is really simple. First, I bought two aluminum tubes. One tube is slightly larger in diameter than the other so that the smaller tube can slide into the bigger tube. Next, I glue a large cube of styrene inside of the fuselage. Then I drilled a hole through the fuselage and through the styrene cube to fit the larger tube. Next, I glued a small section of the larger tube into the styrene. I did the small on the base: drill a hole and glue a small section of the larger tube. Lastly, everything was painted black, the smaller tube was insert into the base and other end into the model. Works out nice since I can easily remove the model from the base.

If my explanation is confusing, let me know, I’ll take some pictures.

Looks pretty sweet.

I saw couple of them flying in formation with some -53’s on Quantico right after I got my haircut, pretty cool aircraft I must admit.

Great build of another of those ‘So ugly its cool’ planes.
