That will be fantastic. I try to get to Reno every couple of years, and really enjoy going to the pits.

I got there in either 69 or 70 as a field trip in the aviation class I was in in high school.(grew up in Quincy, had two sisters in Reno/Sparks) Had Blue Angles there, loved the Pitts and the unlimiteds. Bob Hoover was the absolute show stopper for me with his routine in the Aero Commander Shrike. Kill both engines and feather the props in the loop and grease it on dead stick. I think DG was still flying his Bear then too, gear was raised with nitrogen and dropped and locked with gravity and a quick shake.
Kit paint scheme is different from your pic. Some scallops in the blue and ed on the tail but no “swoopy” lines on the profile, and wings are scalloped and starred.
Yeah, the schemes have changed some through the years. Like Rare Bear, way different.
Miss America won the Unlimited Silver when I was there in 13. Voodoo won the Gold last year.
That will be a very cool build.
This is Shaping up to be an awesome build! Really looking forward to it!
I plan to do a Mustang Funny Car and will have to give a P-51 a shot too.
I definitely want in on this! I have the Tamiya P-51D in 1:48 and the 25th anniversary Monogram clear Mustang in 1:32.

Brandon,
I got you down buddy.
I’ve always wanted to build that visible Mustang. That’s going to be cool, can’t wait [:P]
Think I will jump in as well. Not sure what I will build but with the time frame even I should be able to finish one. Will let you know what I am building when I find it.
I’ve got you down as TBD sir.
Steve, put me down for a 1/32 P-51B, likely in the Boise Bee scheme of Duane Beeson.
I remember when Bob “Hurricane” Hannah was piloting the #55 Voodoo Chile. I saw it at the Caldwell Airport once when he flew it there. He has a ton of stuff on his walls in his private hangar on his island between Middleton and Caldwell.
I’ve been out of the modeling loop for about a year now (due to lots of life changes.) I’d like to join this build by entering a 1/72 Airfix P/F-51D Mustang.Markings/scheme yet to be determined.
Cheers,Douglas
Douglas,
I got you down sir.
Jeremy,
I got you updated with this, I believe you wanted.
I don’t believe I know #55. Was it an AT-6?
#55 Voodoo Chile is a highly modified P-51D that races in Reno. It is a multicolored paintscheme, mostly purple.
Yes, that P-51B that is at Warhawk is the basis for the kit I’m planning. Fortunately, the aircraft in your picture is less than a mile from my house, so getting good reference shots will be pretty easy.
Where are you going to find the “Bee”? You going to make it, or are there decals for it?
The purple Voodoo? Yeah I know it. It won the Gold last year, if this is the one your talking about.
Yep that is the one I’m talking about.
There is an old Revell Kit that has these decals with it. If I cant find the kit, I’ll take a picture of the real one and make my own decals. I may even end up buying the Barracuda decal sheet for the P-47 and use the “Bee” from that sheet.
Looks like i started something[H]
Steve. I can’t resist Mustangs. 18 months. Put me down for 3 1/72 F-6C early P-51D and a D with tail fillet. John
Pencil me in…1/48 Tamiya P-51B
John and lawdog,
I got y’all.
Sign me up. P-51 TBD
