Mustang Build - derailed by crap decals

I got a nice jump on a P-51B this week while on spring break. A good start on a nicely weathered metallic finish of a 332nd P-51B. Put the first few decals into the soup and they disintegrated to little flecks of crap. Completely unsalvageble. I’d spray them but they are transparent to boot. I’m stuck until I can order new decals for a red tail P-51B. I found an Aeromaster P-51C sheet that will have to be close enough (you can’t tell the factories by looking at the plane anyway). This is the Monogram Pro-Modeler version of the P-51 which is a nice mold (Hasegawa I think). Panel lines engraved and very are well done and the fit was pretty good. I’m a bit ticked at the moment but I’ll get over it.

Did you say your building a Tuskeege airman aircraft?? There is a set on ebay(there there most of the time) for three differant aircraft. Just search decals…Harv

I may have a set left from a set of three airframes. I built two and had one left. I’ll check tonight and if I have a complete set they are yours.

What scheme are you building? I have a few different sets in my decal folders…

Squadron came through for me. I got my set yesterday and have made good progress towards completion. I’ll try and post a few pics later this afternoon

I got a few shots uploaded of the P-51C I’m building. This is the Pro-Modeler version of the P-51B/C with Aeromaster decals of Crockett’s Daisy Mae added. (There is also a 1/144 scale P-38 in the shots that is the Minicraft kit that I was building while waiting for the replacement decals to arrive.

Looks like the red on the tail and horizontal Stabilizers need to be redone they look a bit orange peeled.

Thanks for the comment. It’s just the way the flash is hitting the gloss top coat. I’ve still got to add more wash to the tail and then apply the flat coat. That should clear it right up.
