Museum Open & Live Day ........

Last weekend 11/12 Feb 2006 there was a Live / Open Day at the Sir Keith Park Museum in Western Springs , Auckland… where’s that you say >>>> New Zealand.

I went and took about 240 pics of tanks and planes and misc. other military vehicles. Also a battle was staged which was interesting to watch.

This museum has a mint preserved Lancaster as well as flying boats and a load of other neat stuff.

Anyone interested in seeing some of the pics? If there is some interest I will post them on Photobucket site. . Let me know if you want to see 'em[:)]

I’d like to see them.

Manfred,

thanks for the photos and seems like you had a good time at the event. I was in New Zealand not too long ago and really enjoyed your neck of woods. Unfortunately, I did not go to the Northern Island (stayed in Queenstown and ChristChurch). I think there was a place in Christchurch that specializing in recovering/salvaging and restoring P-40 Warhawks and recently they restored YAK-1 fighter as well. I will make a point to visit that facility during my next trip.

Hi m1garand. - sounds like you hit the expensive tourist trap areas . South Island is really pretty but don’t forget the North Island next time.OK ! In the central North Island there is the Army Museum at Waiuru in the Desert Road where there is the largest collection of tanks etc in the country. A tank buff could spend 2 days just there! Also its the main army base / exercise area for the NZ Army. Also pretty up there as its on the Volcanic Plateau with 3-4 ski fileds up Mount Ruapehu etc. Its all just near lake Taupo which is right in the middle of the North Island and great trout fishing and thermal hot springs.
