For all you car modellers out there. One Hundred years ago today,a certain Mr Henry Rolls met a certain Mr Charles Royce. The rest of the story is as they history. Where would the Lancaster/Spitfire/Mustang,etc, be without that beautiful merlin engine. We may never be able to afford their cars but we can dream.
Isn’t that Herr Rolls und Herr Royce now?
Still at least the aircraft engines are still British.
Karl
Aren’t they owned by Mr. BMW along with Vickers? Just curious to know…
As I understand matters, BMW own the Rolls Royce brand name, while VW own the Rolls Royce manufacturing plant at Crewe, and the Bentley brand.
While Roll Royce aero engines, are I assume, part of Vickers.
Confused?
I am.
Ironic how something with so much class can be built in Crewe…
Crewe has an engineering pedigree stretching back to the mid-19th century when the railways arrived and set up their main workshops.
However at no point has Crewe ever been linked to style!
Karl
Thats what I was on about… Then again, I can’t really say too much bad things about Crewe… I’m from Luton.
Michael, if I were you I’d leave matters right there…
…you do realise this discussion means nothing to our friends on the opposite side of the pond!
By the Jagdpanzer looks great.
Karl
I was wondering if this was the polite, British way of saying that you grew up on the wrong side of the tracks???[:D]
I’m more of an Aston-Martin fan myself (another car that I will NEVER [V] own)
I prefer Saab…though they are owned by GM now…[V]
Lemon, you have Cleveland, we also have a Cleveland, but also the likes of Crewe and Luton. You getting my drift.
As for Aston Martin, they are just another Ford product now, long with Land Rover, Range Rover and Jaguar. Sad but true.
Heath, Saab’s just haven’t been the same since they became Opel Vectra’s in drag under GM’s auspices.
Karl
I know I know, but somebody has to come from there!
[:D] Thanks…
I wouldn’t worry…I’m from West Drayton, famous only for being home of UK air traffic control for many years.
It’s about 3 miles from Heathrow, and best avoided, apart for the model shop that is.
Karl
Well you know what they say… The best way to see Luton is in your rear view mirror…
I think so. It’s more like the southside of Chicago and East St Louis?
They may be a Ford product, but they’re still more exotic than any Ford I’ve owned. Now, I’m more of a Chevy man, but I wouldn’t turn down the keys to a Jaquar or Aston-Martin Vanquish if offered, paid in full.
Lemon, it’s just a bit chessey that on Aston keys, Ford have queezed the AM logo into a little oval!!! That and the switch gear if from one of their company rep mobiles.
Cheap or what.
Strange thing is, all the Jags have bespoke switch gear and keys?
Go figure.
I think I’ll just stick to drooling over Lotus Elise’s, and TVR Tuscans.
Karl
I’ll keep to Land Rover…
That’ll be a Ford then!!!
Karl
Oh no, not this one… Its a British leyland one… Don’t know if I’m supposed to be happy about that, but at least its not a Daggenham Dustbin.
British Leyeland, two of the most frightening words in the English language, along with ‘Lucas’.
LOL
