Hi,
I have applied Mr. Color GX100 clear today to prepare for decals on my Tamiya 1:48 Spitfire. First time I have used GX100 (I have been using so far the Tamiya X22 on my previous model), and what I am seeing, a few hours after application, it looks more like a satin clear rather than a glossy clear. I have thinned it with Mr. Color Levelling thinnet at 1:2 ratio clear to thinner, and also sprayed a final mist cost of pure Levelling thinner.
What do you suggest in order to make it as it should be ? Polishing ? Another wet coat ? If so, maybe with different thin ratio ?
Thanks
Ezio

I just dust on a lacquer coat to apply decals, personally the thinner the better ( less chance of cracking later on).. It’s generally getting a clear matte or flat top coat anyway for military aircraft. So long as it’s smooth the decals should lay out fine. Not to mention 1-2 parts thinner to 1 part clear would be my reduction rate.
For a top gloss clear coat on a car or whatever you need to polish it up, yes.
