Good morning and happy Labor Day! I hope you all are enjoying a nice day off. Well, I finished this kit last night and got pictures this morning. Not the greatest kit, a lot of fit issues and lack of detail really hamper construction. What can you expect from a kit that is probably about 30 years old. We really could use a newer model, alas, unless the new movies have some Star Destroyers in them this may not come to pass. Anyway enough of my griping, Continuing to fuel my resurging passion for Star Wars, here is my latest addition, an Imperial class Star Destroyer.

I have one of these partly built in the shed, one day I need to get back to it. We could defiantly do with a newer kit, but I agree we are unlikely to get one.
Wow! Nice work! Are the broadside turbo-laser batteries aftermarket or did you scratchbuild them? Love the battle damage, adds interest but not overdone.
Bish, glad you like it. Currently, my imagination is better than my skills allow. I envisioned a lot for this model some came out others did not. Overall I’m happy with it though. I built this kit when it came out; during the Empire Strikes Back release. Got it for Christmas and still have it in bits and pieces. Always loved the ship, it was so honking huge at the beginning of Star Wars. It’s more than 30 years old, because I built it in high school and I’ve been out over 30 years.
Nice work, NucMedTech. I hear ya on the fit issues and lack of detail. I built this same kit back in the day and I still remember what a crud-bucket it was. As simple as the kit is, one would think the relatively few parts would have all mated nicely, but no. This kit was not on par with other MPC kits of the time nor was it the quality you’d expect from Star Wars. You’ve done an amazing job considering what you had to deal with. Keep up the good work.
Hi Rob and Flyit, Glad you guys stopped by! The model is old and cantankerous, but was fun in a challenging way. The bones of the kit are good so if your good at scratch or greebling parts I think it could really be nice. One of these days I will try lighting on of these models. -Stephen
It is soooo weird that you posted this as I just pulled a boxed one off the shelf just yesterday to look at the sprues. You may have inspired me to build this one! Nice work on the shading for what could have been a VERY drab kit!
Highlander burial, I hope to see yours here soon then. It’s an easy enough kit, kind of sparse on details. If you have the time and abilities it can be worked into a real nice model, the bones of it are good enough to work on. Good job. I like the engines, especially. You can’t go wrong with Star Wars kits. I have the AMT Star Destroyer. Never have built it. I think when I do I’ll put lights in it. I understand your pain as far as the fit problems go with MPC kits. Same is true for AMT. They are infamous for that, in my opinion. About the only reason I’ll buy AMT is for the subject matter. Anyway, I have a bunch of Star Wars kits. I need to get to work on them. Again, good job.
I built one of those decades ago myself. Can vouch for all the same gripes! I personally always wanted a tiny Millenium Falcon to pose on the side of the superstructure. Unfortunately my Star Destroyer (and AT-AT) disappeared while I was on deployment about 8 years ago. My wife never did tell me what she did with them, but suffice to say they are no more…
I built this kit several years ago. It wasn’t meant to be. Firstly, I tried adding a blue hue to the paint. Well, the liquid paint looked much different than the finished product and I had a blue ship when I was done. Secondly, I decided to hang the ship from my office and the fishing line pulled through and down she went. Anyways, you did a fantastic job on yours. Don’t let it crash! [:)]
